Born in 2009 in the mountains of New Zealand, Mons Royale was the brainchild of Hamish and Hannah Acland. They specialise in creating sustainable, high-performance, quality, merino wool base layers.
An essential part of your ski and snowboard clothing setup, a base layer is the foundation of the 3-layer system. Despite being hidden under your other layers, the base layer is actually your body’s first line of defence against external forces. A good base layer should be able to wick moisture from the skin, and allow you to maintain a consistent and comfortable body temperature.
As a next to skin fabric, not a lot can compete with Merino. They’re natural fibres that come from Merino sheep, it’s one of the softest wools available, with the finest micron. As a material, it has fantastic properties relating to both cold and warm weather activities. Best of all? It’s odour free.
As a natural fibre, Merino wool is a far more sustainable option than some synthetic options. It’s grown year round and each year the sheep produce a new fleece, making it a completely renewable fibre. All of Mons Royale’s merino wool is made in partnership with New Zealand’s ZQ Merino, the world’s leading ethical wool brand. They stand for a better quality of life for the animals, the planet, and people. The yarn is spun at Süedwolle and certified with the latest eco certifications including Bluesign and Oeko-Tex standards.
