While the Stomper has connotations of landing bolts and riding out of everything clean, the Lobster Sender has a slightly different ring to it. Safety grab? Hell no, give it the Sender. Too icy to ride? No chance, time for the Sender. Quick demi for aprés and then home to stretch? Eh, nah, let’s go full-blown Sender. This is the ‘act first; think later’ snowboard in Lobster’s 2020/21 lineup, designed for confident, all-mountain freestylers who’ve got one thing on their mind.

It’s had a bit of a redesign and things have kicked up a notch for 2020/21. With the stiffest flex rating in the range coming in at an 8/10, it’s not really one for the faint-hearted. The core has been built up with powerful poplar and beech wood stringers, sandwiched between snappy triax fibreglass laminates and then bolstered up with four carbon stringers, right through the centre of the nose and tail.

How you ride it is non-negotiable. The Sender needs a confident skipper at the helm and anyone less than an experienced, seasoned rider need not apply. Where you ride it, on the other hand, is open-ended. The outline has a directional twin shape, meaning there’s some increased volume in the nose to help with stability and float when you’re riding in your preferred direction.

The contact shape (the area right up to the widest parts of the nose and tail) is still that of a true twin though. As with every Lobster snowboard, freestyle is right at the heart of its identity, and the Sender is primed to take on the big line in the park. The sintered base takes care of the run-in, the core and aggressive camber take care of the setup and pop, but it’s up to you to be on your game once it’s in the air.

Along with with the Cream, Stomper and Shifter, the Sender gets fitted with Lobster’s new 3D Nose and Tail + Sidekicks. It’s not a massive departure from last season’s 3BT profile, and many of the advantages are the same, but the bevels in the base occur beyonf the contact points, so riders who prefer the rapid edge change of a traditional camber will get along well here.

Tester’s Verdict 2019/20

Rob McCreathWhitelines

“The big talking point here is a Lobster board without Triple Base… but with Sidekick. I was thinking this might be a bit of a BLT but without the bacon. In practice, it’s the opposite – they chucked out the salad and left the big, crispy, rashers!

“Hopefully, we’ll start to see more boards of this nature emerge from the Lobster HQ”

The Shifter totally works with just the sidekicks. In fact, for my money it actually works better with the omission of the full 3BT treatment. You get the same pop, you get the same smooth turn initiations, you even get some of the same forgiveness, but without the slower edge to edge transition. Hopefully, we’ll start to see more boards of this nature emerge from the Lobster HQ.

There’s all the softer, more forgiving flex you’d expect from a more focused jib board, however it won’t have the added bonus of extra float found in the rest of the Lobster line. But for slaying the rail line, jibbing the home run and keeping your riding as loose as the Helgasons, this thing is the… Shift.”
