UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Lib Tech Skate Banana here

Who would have thought that something called the Skate Banana would end up being one of the most prevailing, iconic snowboards of all time? Well, anyone who has ridden one for starters. It’s never going to be to everyone’s taste, but there’s no denying the impact it has made.

The Lib Tech Skate Banana first appeared over a decade ago, and while it didn’t invent the concept of ‘reverse camber’, it certainly popularised it. The latest incarnation still has the pronounced rocker bend at the waist, as well as mellow camber sections under the feet.

“It’s not one for full elbow-down carving, but everything else is on the table”

The result is a board that allows you to cut loose, press and butter with ease, and embrace freestyle in the powder. It’s still a true twin, so you’re missing out if you don’t try and get tricky with it.

Rocker’s less good for making turns on pistes, but this is compensated with wavy Magne-Traction edges that offer more grip on firmer terrain. It’s not one for full elbow-down carving, but everything else is on the table.

With plenty of sizes, including narrow shapes as well as wide ones, there’s a Lib Tech Skate Banana for everyone. Beginners would do well to check it out too, as it’s a fine platform for grasping the basics too.

Tester’s Verdict

Darren Williamsthesnowboardshop.co.uk

“This legendary snowboard offers a super easy-going ride thanks to the reverse camber centre, but with the mellow camber underfoot there’s also edge hold when you need it.

“The serrated edges of the Skate Banana cut into ice and hard pack with ease”

If you hate ice ….and I guess we all do, then Lib Tech have a trick up their sleeve – Magne-Traction. The serrated edges of the Skate Banana cut into ice and hard pack with ease.

The downside for me, however, is that occasionally I find that they grab hold of the snow when I don’t want them to. It could just be my riding style, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re considering the Skate Banana.”
