LIB TECH ORCA X TRAVIS RICE X THE ORCA CONSERVANCY

A journey that began with the search for killer pow, and now aims to protect killer whales

Lib Tech have officially announced their partnership with non-profit organization The Orca Conservancy, who are “committed to the recovery of the Southern Resident killer whale population and protecting the wild places on which it depends”. Moving forward a percentage of sales from every single Travis Rice Orca snowboard will go towards supporting the vital work of the group.

Mervin MFG are no strangers to charitable relationships, already partnering with Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC), but this new endeavour matches up perfectly with their long-term environmental ethos. Traditionally snowboard manufacturers use a silk-screening method for graphics that creates toxic leftovers that work their way into the oceans, Mervin, however, use their own eco-sublimation process that produces zero-hazardous waste. They also power their factory with mostly renewable energy sources and include recycled materials wherever possible.

After its initial release, the Lib Tech Orca quickly became one of the most popular, and recognisable, boards on the planet. People began to attribute the word ‘Orca’ to the snowboard, rather than the living, breathing animals that are facing “a triple threat of a changing climate, depleting salmon stocks and busy shipping canals disrupting them”. After learning more about the devastation to the Orca population, Travis and the crew at Mervin wanted to use their platform to inspire positive change. A partnership was formed with the Orca Conservancy, and the rest, as they say, is history.

“A year ago today we signed on to support their work and have every Lib Tech Orca board sold across the globe raise money and awareness to their cause. We want to thank Travis Rice for personally donating money from his pro model board showing his commitment to community and environmental stewardship.”
