Shape wise you’ve got a long scooped nose, with a less pronounced stubby tail ideal for throwing fat slashes when the mood strikes. You get a lot of manoeuvrability from the rear thanks to the tapered tail and while you probably wouldn’t want to land switch off a backcountry booter, you’re just gonna have to work on rounding out that spin.

Using Lib Tech’s C3 Camber profile for maximum pop and power, the Short Wide is punchy and aggressive by nature. A minimal rocker between the feet transitions into longer camber sections delivering precision and control by the bag load. The camber zones bring a dynamic energy to the board, springboarding back your input like a preloaded spring, with the central rocker easing out turn initiation and gripping through the arc of the turn.

A super tight 6m sidecut means this thing turns on a dime. It’s ideal for dipping in and out of trees, swerving jerrys and laying out fat carves on the corduroy. Thanks to the wider platform underfoot, you can really get down and dirty without worrying about catching toes and run flatter binding angles too. Obviously, it’s not as quick edge to edge as something narrower, but that’s not why you’re buying it, this is for your elbows down eurocarves, not brushing up your super G slalom skills.

Unusually for a Mervin made snowboard, the Short Wide doesn’t use their Magne-Traction edge profile. They’ve done away with it this year to give more of a traditional feel to the snowboard, it’ll feel more like your old school camber cannon than it has in previous years.

Even with the updates the JL Short Wide isn’t a quiver killer, this is a board you have in your collection for the dreamiest of pow days. Even if it only makes it out of your house a few days each season, you can guarantee those will be the days you remember the most.
