UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 KORUA Shapes Tranny Finder here

It’s not unreasonable to feel a little intimidated by all the directional shapes in the Korua range (especially once you’ve seen what the boys do with them in Yearning For Turning). If you’re looking for something that’s a bit more traditional but still interesting, the answer is the Korua Trannyfinder.

“If you’re looking for something that’s a bit more traditional but still interesting, the answer is the Korua Trannyfinder”

Stephan Maurer’s fingerprints are all over this one, as it’s definitely the most freestyle-focused of the Korua range. While it has the same setback camber profile as the likes of the Apollo, the outline is a bit more switch-friendly. Natural features are begging to be hit with this, and it’ll fit the bill on every type of snow from the deepest powder to hard-pack and slush.

If you’ve got slightly bigger feet then you’ll appreciate the wider waist – but if you’re a more average size, be aware that edge changes will be a little less smooth. You’ll be glad of it when there’s powder around though, and you can take advantage of the increased surface area.

The Korua Trannyfinder is therefore a ‘gateway’ board for those wanting to keep their options open, and are not yet ready to go full carve-tard. It’s also available as a splitboard if you’re looking to embrace the far-flung backcountry, although that one only comes in a 157cm.

Tester’s Verdict

Sam McMahon – whitelines.com

“I’m fortunate enough to have ridden a bunch of Korua boards, and I’m a big fan of the long ‘n’ wide shapes they’ve produced in their short existence.

“It was weird getting on the Tranny Finder – it felt… like a normal snowboard. Not bad, just not very… Korua”

Having said that, it was weird getting on the Tranny Finder – it felt… like a normal snowboard. Not bad, just not very… Korua. Maybe it’s my big galumphing feet, but without the width there’s not as much motivation to get quite as long in the corners.

That said, she still flies. The base is as quick as ever and it’s great fun for pinning it round corners, getting airborne off side hits and even hitting some decent park jumps. The profile is spot on for all of these things, nicely cambered with a lot of extra rocker in the nose.

It’s a really good board – there’s just a lot more ‘specialness’ to be found in the rest of the range.”
