The Jones Lone Wolf certainly turned heads in recent years – but perhaps it was a bit too much of a beast. Will its successor, the Jones Storm Wolf (so-called due to a redesign that borrows from its swallowtailed sibling, the Storm Chaser) prove to have more staying power?

“Only consider this one if you really want to test your limits, be they in the resort or out the back”

Who Is The Jones Storm Wolf For?

While it’s not as gnar as its predecessor – the shortest version of which is a match for the longest of this one – the Jones Storm Wolf is still built for speed. Only consider this one if you really want to test your limits, be they in the resort or out the back.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Unlike the Storm Chaser, the Jones Storm Wolf has some camber in the profile. It lines up nicely with the long sidecut, an ideal combination for locking into each turn with power and precision. Indeed, you’re encouraged to centre your bindings over the sidecut in order to get the most out of every carve, and the edge itself has bends in it that provide extra grip on the firm stuff.

It would, of course, be a bit weird not to also mention the monstrous nose, which has a 3D shape in order to float over powder and glide between turns like nothing else.

Construction and Materials

That crazy edge hold is further enhanced by bamboo sections of core that run along either side of a central paulownia section. The Storm Wolf feels stiff but not heavy as a result, which is perfect for redlining down either pow or piste. It’s also one of only two Jones boards to feature a layer of Carbon Innegra fibres, which are there to cancel out the vibrations that can be murder for your feet at high speeds.

“ One thing we do already know is that every turn the Jones Storm Wolf makes will remind its rider what it means to really be alive”

Roundup

Only time will tell if Jeremy Jones and his shaping guru Chris Christensen have finally stumbled upon the George’s Marvellous Medicine of intimidating freeride boards. One thing we do already know is that every turn the Jones Storm Wolf makes will remind its rider what it means to really be alive. Will we still see it on the shelves in five years’ time? Don’t bet against it.
