Who Is The Jones Mini Mind Expander For?

Everyone hates the kid with ‘all the gear, no idea’ – but if your progeny is already confident and creative on the mountain, then it’d be a sin to lump them with a cookie-cutter directional twin. The Jones Mini Mind Expander is essentially the exact opposite of that.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Rocker’s moment in the sun has long since past, but one place you’ll still find it is on kids’ boards. The reduced change of edge-catch makes it ideal for learners – but that’s not what we’ve got here.

The surf-inspired profile of the Jones Mini Mind Expander has a long rise to the front, ensuring that its big ol’ nose is easy to keep on top of things in the powder. It’s also bevelled at the extremities for even better float and smoother edge changes, and it’s wider than most boards so can be ridden shorter.

Construction and Materials

Like a lot of kids’ boards based on existing adult models, there have been a few tech downgrades here. However, that isn’t always a bad thing; a full poplar core, minus any fancy stringers, will suit the groms just fine, and keeps the cost down.

And it’s to Jones’ credit that that’s the only difference; the Mini Mind Expander has the same high-speed sintered base and ‘Traction Tech’ bumpy sidecuts as the original. The topsheet, edges and sidewalls are all highly durable too, so your kid will outgrow this long before it bites the dust.

“In a just world, every kid will have the chance to ride something like this once they’ve cracked the basics”

Roundup

In a just world, every kid will have the chance to ride something like this once they’ve cracked the basics. It leaves park riding – something most groms gravitate towards – very much on the table, but will ensure that the rest of the mountain gets some love too.
