When designing new outerwear, it’s always been part of the Horsefeathers approach to consult with the experts. The pro team is intimately involved in crafting the latest line each year – and nowhere more so than in the Addicted To Powder series, overseen by Tyler Chorlton.

“It is absolutely chock-full of features, some of which could be difference-makers when you’re far out of bounds”

The Horsefeathers Hector snowboard jacket is one of the new pieces the Andorran-based backcountry bandit has had a hand in (both hands, actually; as well as designing and extensively testing it, he has even modelled it for the 2017/18 catalogue). It’s absolutely chock-full of features, some of which could be difference-makers when you’re far out of bounds.

The waterproofing and breathability ratings of the Horsefeathers Hector are high, if not stratospheric. They’re certainly fit for purpose, and ensure that the overall cost isn’t prohibitive. Under the water-repellant shell sits a light layer of Primaloft Silver 40g insulation, allowing you to layer up for colder days or lighten your load on a springtime tours.

Every part of it is designed to keep you protected from the weather, whether it’s rain or champagne powder. With adjustable extremities, jacket-to-pant connectors, a non-slip powder skirt and fully taped seams, you can be as locked up in the Hector as Fort Knox gold.

Tweaking things on the move is easy, too. The hood can be re-sized with only one hand, and the zips are as smooth as they come. Accessing a phone or media player is a piece of cake too, thanks to the transparent pocket that keeps it safe yet handy – and the same goes for your liftpass, which can be tucked away on your sleeve.

As for when you’re actually riding, the regular fit and shaped sleeves ensure you have enough freedom of movement without any unnecessary bulk. If a gnarly blizzard sets in and you need to ride with the front zip done right to the top, a fleece-lined chinguard keeps your face protected.

The Horsefeathers Hector snowboard jacket may be a newbie, but there’s already plenty of reason to put your trust in it. Tyler certainly does, and we’d all be lucky to get as many pow days as him.
