High Country Caravan

A splitboarding bonanza from Jeremy Jones

Jeremy Jones has long been synonymous with backcountry and big mountain snowboarding, but someone who you might not expect to find on a multi-day splitboard expedition is Danny Davis. But that’s exactly what happened when these guys and some of their pals decided to create High Country Caravan. They headed over to the High Sierra to ride some unnamed and unridden peaks, get out into Mother Nature and have an adventure designed to inspire others.

The guys were joined by mountain guru Nick Schneider, backcountry beast Nick Russell and halfpipe legend Kevin Pearce. The whole trip was a steep learning curve for Davis and Pearce, but their years of comp riding left them both with skills that were easily transferable across the different disciplines. Using crampons and ice axes was a completely foreign concept for half the group, but if we were being inducted into the world of high-stakes, gnarly splitboarding- we’d want Jeremy Jones as our teacher too.

The friends thought the trip would be a good way to get their buddy KP back shredding after his horrific 2009 Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). He was forced to relearn the most basic of functions, so getting himself ready for this splitboard extravaganza took years of preparation and effort on his part.

The crew start hitting some impossibly steep lines, notably Nick Russell seems to find the gnarliest face and goes hell for leather riding out of it. Nick- you’re a madman.

For the majority of people a trip on such a scale is currently a pipe dream, but Jones and Co. want their short documentary to inspire others to get out and experience their own adventures regardless of how big the magnitude is. The group eschew the use of heli’s and instead rely on their leg power and resilience to get the to the peaks, where the sweet lines are just waiting to be painted.
