The idea of trying to blend in, or be the grey man in the room, is something that seems to go against the very culture of snowboarding. Yet, Head have done exactly that – slipped the NX Four under the radar and brought a quality, original, price-point, all-mountain product to the shelves.
It’s a true all-rounder. The newly developed highback, with a slit running down the centre, offers a soft, surfy flex, best suited to the rider who’s more focused on the current turn than being snapped into the next.
“Start to ramp up the speed and the binding’s response keeps up most of the way”
Start to ramp up the speed and the binding’s response keeps up most of the way. But with that speed comes the inevitable chatter. Head have specced the binding with a fully covered EVA footbed and their Dampiflex technology. This not only keeps the vibrations down and comfort up but allows the board to flex more naturally underfoot, increasing overall feel.
Head’s final trick up the sleeve is their Auto-Open system. When strapping in, all of the straps completely hinge open to give clear and easy access to the footbeds. It’s a total winner, for novices and seasoned veterans alike.
Rider’s looking for that extra bit of snap and response may consider the NX Six instead. For everyone else, playing it safe doesn’t always mean playing it boring.
