UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Head The Day here

Welcome back to the Head The Day – after nailing this board in 2016/17, the team at Head have carried it over for another winter unchanged.

“No powder around? No problem – the Head The Day is a blast on piste”

Naturally, with that shape your best bet for a good time on The Day is to find some powder, where the massive nose and tapered outline – not to mention the flat profile with rocker at each end – will let you glide over the top of everything from dust-on-crust to nipple-deep champagne.

No powder around? No problem – the Head The Day is a blast on piste. Literally, in fact, with a base that goes like the absolute clappers. It’s not all that stiff, so you might be put off going for any speed records, but its edge-to-edge response is admirable.

It doesn’t boast the tech of, say, the Head Instinct i.KERS, but that’s part of the beauty of the Head The Day. By stripping things back to a simpler construction, they’ve made a board that is more than fit for purpose yet available at a bafflingly low price.

It’s also a great choice for anyone with an eye on one day moving into splitboarding; the bamboo channel that runs down the middle forms a perfect seal against the elements when you slice this in two, so all you need is a conversion kit and you’re ready to move into the world of backcountry exploration.

Tester’s Verdict

Andrew Duthie – whitelines.com

“This really is a terrific snowboard, especially for the price – I rode it mainly on firm, early-season groomers and it was stable, responsive and insanely fast (cue lots of quips from other skiers/snowboarders about wanting to borrow my wax).

If razzing from top to bottom all day gets dull, the flex on this is mellow enough to enjoy buttering on that big nose, which is really surprising when you’ve felt it at top speed. Pinging it off rollers is fun too, as it’s really light.

I didn’t get any powder under me, but was left with no reason to doubt that this would be an excellent board for deep days.”
