Probably the most accessible of Jamie Anderson’s triumvirate of Gnu-backed snowboards, the Ladies Choice is a personal favourite of many of the Whitelines crew, it turns every mountain into an all you can eat buffet of fun. With its middle of the road flex, asymmetric construction and versatile C2x profile, the Ladies Choice is as adaptable as they come, a de facto quiver killer for every single day of the season. Now in its tenth year, the Ladies Choice has a cult-like following surpassed only by Jamie’s herself.

Who Is The Gnu Ladies Choice For?

Thanks to its relatively low barrier to entry and versatility across mixed terrain the Ladies Choice can be enjoyed by a huge cross section of snowboarders, from less experienced riders looking to build confidence and skills to pros who want one board to do it all.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Over the last few years, we’ve seen the emergence of asymmetric snowboards in the mainstream, and it may throw you a bit if you’re not used to riding with it. We’ll admit we thought it was all a bit of a gimmick when we first heard about it many moons ago, but like the power steering in a car, once you settle in it’s hard to go back.

Using this asym tech the Ladies Choice allows you to put more power through your heelside to counteract your body’s biomechanical inefficiencies, all in all you’ll get a snowboard that’s extra responsive, easier to control and able to drive power equally through both edges.

Gnu’s C2x profile is a hybrid, with a central rocker and camber running out towards the nose and tail. These work in harmony to deliver float in powder, stability on piste and pop in the park. It’s not too aggressive but we might recommend steering towards something a bit more mellow if you’re an absolute beginner. Less confident riders don’t be afraid of picking up this snowboard-it’s the older sibling, but not the bigger one. The Pro Choice is a stiffer, harder hitting option for those who are really looking to push their limits.

Construction and Materials

As well as asym sidecut and contact, the Ladies Choice also alters the core so the wood is softer and easier to manoeuvre on the heelside, the core itself is Gnu’s lightest and strongest option for longevity and consistent flex throughout its life.

The Ladies Choice runs a sintered base as standard, UHMW sidewalls and a dual fibreglass weave with built-in dampening for soaking up some of the chatter as you’re blasting through chop and slop.

“The traditional tenth anniversary gift is tin, and while there’s none to be had here, it symbolises durability and strength, which the Ladies Choice brings by the bucketload”

Roundup

The traditional tenth anniversary gift is tin, and while there’s none to be had here, it symbolises durability and strength, which the Ladies Choice brings by the bucketload. It’s not the most expensive snowboard on the market, not by a long shot, but there’s a certain flair about it that still keeps us coming back after a decade. Here’s to the next ten!
