UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Giro Contact here

The Giro Contact snowboard google doesn’t come cheap, but it’s a premium model in every sense. Worth the money? We reckon so.

This is one of only a few models on the market that uses magnets to hold the lens in place. Once the stuff of our sci-fi dreams, this results in a seriously quick lens changing system that requires no touching of the front of the lens whatsoever.

A small catch provides that extra bit of security, and it’s controlled with the push of a button on the top of the lens. The feeling is similar to that of taking a picture with a camera, which is why the technology is called ‘Snapshot’.

The lens itself is Giro’s new Vivid offering, developed in partnership with Zeiss. If it’s contrast and clarity you’re after (and it should be), this will definitely be to your liking.

A fogged lens is no good regardless of how techy it is, which is why the Giro Contact uses a special foam that allows moisture such as sweat to escape, but still acts as a barrier against the elements.

The frame/strap combo seen here is a collab with Protect Our Winters, with a slice of the asking price going straight to their climate-change prevention mission.

Tester’s Verdict

Andrew Duthie – whitelines.com

“The Contact is a terrific goggle that earns its asking price thanks to flawless performance.

Fogging was never an issue with this comfortable, lightweight pair of goggles. The lens changing system is also among the very best out there, and both lenses I used performed perfectly in the conditions.

One word of warning; the version I tried had a logo patch sewn onto each side of the strap, and it prevented me from getting these quite as tight as I wanted them.

That was the only downside though, so other than that I was laughing.”
