Giro

Our pick of this season's best Giro snowboard gear

Kicking things off on the shores of the Pacific back in ’85, Giro Helmets originally began developing cycle helmets for the peloton, mountain chargers and easy cruisers of the sunshine state. It wasn’t until 1999 that they started making lids for us sideways standers.

Now Giro are one of the biggest players in the helmet market, with a team roster as long as the BFG’s arm. Their lids are always bopping out the pipe in competitions or rotating at dizzy speeds through the slopestyle course.

In 2007, they introduced their first goggle line at ISPO in Münich and quickly followed up their launch with an exclusive deal with Finnish slayer Antti Autti. In the UK, Madison signed on the dotted line in 2009 to distribute the helmets to keep us all safe and they quickly snapped up some of the UK’s finest talent with riders such as Jenny Jones, Ben Kilner and Scott McMorris. Unfortunately, Madison and Giro’s marital bliss came to an end after some dispute over the importation of so called ‘grey’ products.

Everything within the Giro line is designed to fit seamlessly with their helmet collection so you can comfortably protect your head as well as your eyes. You’ll see this when you check out team riders like Sebbe de Buck, Bryan Fox and Enni Rukajärvi rocking the combo.

Giro Method Snow Goggles 2022-2023

Price: £135 / $150

Naming your product after everyone’s favourite snowboard trick is quite a flex. Fortunately for Giro, the Method goggles deliver. If we’re being generous, their design could be interpreted as a direct homage to the king of grabs; timeless style that looks simple on the surface, but is so much more than what it seems.

Who Are the Giro Method Goggles For?

We’ve always seen cylindrical-lensed goggles as a bit flashier than their spherical siblings. Maybe it’s just us, but perhaps there’s a correlation between how assured a rider is, and the flatness of their facewear…. The Giro Method is no exception; this is a statement piece, to be worn with confidence. That being said, if you like the sound of these but want to keep a lower profile, you can always ninja it up with the black colourway.

Giro Axis Snow Goggles 2022-2023

Price: £135 / $150

Giro first launched their goggle range in 2007 and have gone from strength to strength, teaming up with top riders from Bryan Fox to Christian Haller. The Axis have a snowboarder look to them, thanks to the frameless design and cylindrical lens. When it comes to lenses, the variety can be overwhelming. Giro have their own Vivid technology which, paired with Zeiss, offer top-of-the-range, high contrast vision. They magnetically click in and out of the frame for easy transition when the weather changes, plus they are locked in place with snap pins for extra hold during slams. Bonus: Each pair of goggles comes with a second lens, so you’re prepped for all eventualities.

Helmets

Giro Tor Helmet 2022-2023

Price: £250

Giro first started making cycle helmets in the 1980s, before branching into snow lids in 1999. Today, they’re one of the major players in the helmet market with a wildly long roster of athletes on their books. Their new Tor Spherical helmet is designed for backcountry missions, boasting their highest level of safety protection. This will give you at least some peace of mind when charging down rock-peppered couloirs. The low-profile, adjustable vents also allow plenty of ventilation when skinning uphill or riding on slushy spring days. Ideal for those who want to explore the backcountry, but don’t want a mountaineering-style helmet.
