FWT 2021 | Kick off in 30 days

Ordino Arcalís – the freeride haven nestled deep in the Andorran Pyrenees, is powdered and primed for the opening event of the Freeride World Tour

Despite the current uncertainties, we’re happy to bring you some good news in the midst of it all. Preparations for Freeride World Tour 2021 are in full swing, with only 30 days to go until the first stop. Despite two of the stops being cancelled, Hakuba and Kicking Horse Golden BC, we’ve still got three events to look forward to – for now.

FWT is actively trying to replace the two events with a fourth and a fifth stop, so fingers crossed we would get a full tour for this season.

Verbier, Switzerland – January 21, 2021: Excitement is brewing across Europe with fresh snowfall blanketing competition venues as the end of the Alpina countdown to FWT approaches. Athletes and organisers are pumped to get competition firing again, and with Ordino Arcalís now in their sights, the wait is almost over.

Following the first stop in Andorra, Fieberbrunn and Xtreme Verbier are both confirmed venues, and organisers are working tirelessly to find locations for the fourth and fifth stops – ensuring regulatory compliance but maintaining their inherent high levels of stoke.

New Format Update

With the current situation pushing organisers to reshuffle this year’s schedule, they have proposed various scenarios based on different outcomes:

  • If there are three stops, the cut will happen after the second event and there will be only 1 run in Fieberbrunn with all 48 riders.
  • If there are four stops, the cut will happen after the third event and there will be only 1 run in Fieberbrunn with all 48 riders.
  • If there are five stops, the cut will happen after the third event and there will be 2 runs in Fieberbrunn.

With the potential reshuffling of the calendar moving the cut to after Fieberbrunn, there will then be 48 athletes competing at the Austrian stop – with the format coming back to one run in Fieberbrunn – as riding twice on this face is only possible with a reduced field of riders. This would force organisers to adapt, reducing Fieberbrunn back to one run. In this case, the number of points up for grabs would remain unchanged (10’000 points) for the stops before the cut. The Xtreme Verbier will remain 1.5X the number of points as previously announced, for a total of 15’000 points up for grabs for the winners.

All FWT events will be LIVE! Watch all the action as it happens on the FWT website or the FWT YouTube channel.”
