Made to be worn on and off the mountain, the FW root jacket stands apart from the rest of the brand’s line with its longer cut and clean design. The neat design combined with the jacket’s 10K waterproofing and breathability rating, makes it an ideal option whether you’re strolling through the rainy streets of damp London or floating through nipple deep powder.

Whether you’re facing rain or snow, you’ll ideally want to be pulling on a jacket that’s 100% seam sealed. What this means is that the tiny holes, that have been created as a result of sewing the jacket together, have been fully sealed – preventing any water from getting in. Together with the 10K waterproofing and YKK zippers, this will help to keep you dry.

Breathability is key in keeping you from feeling damp. The 10K breathability rating here isn’t sky-high, but it’ll still do a decent job at pushing body moisture into the outside air. This’ll stop you feeling cold on the inside of the jacket, meaning you’ll be less likely to fall ill.

The FW Root jacket is the least technical jacket in the line. However, considering the high technical quality of the FW products, this doesn’t mean that the jacket lacks in quality. In comparison to the rest of the line, the Root comes with a lower waterproofing and breathability rating, making it less ideal for a true backcountry mission. That being said, it can fully well handle some casual powder cruising.

With plenty of pockets, and one on the inside too, adjustable cuffs and thoughtfully placed vents for optimal temperature regulation, the Root jacket has everything you need from a snowboard jacket. The classic design, meanwhile, makes it work as an everyday jacket too.

By purchasing one jacket to wear both on and off the mountain, you’re also doing mother nature a massive favour (something FW is well into). The brand donates 1% of their sales to NGOs acting against climate change. They also offer a repair program, instead of encouraging their customers to purchase a new jacket.

The model in the photo is 6’3” (190cm) tall and wearing size L.
