Enni Rukajarvi, the young Finn who made massive waves in women’s snowboarding by winning the TTR World Tour last year, claimed her first X Games gold medal over the weekend by winning the women’s slopestyle. Our very own Jenny Jones (who has of course, claimed the last three X Games gold medals) came second to claim the silver – yet another massive result for the lass from Bristol! The ever-steezy Jamie Anderson finished third.
Jamie led early on, posting a large score with a cab five, back three and a back five. But once Jenny dropped, the level was upped, as her front five, cab five and front 7 put her a full three points clear in the lead. It looked likely that Jenny would manage the near-impossible feat of claiming her fourth X Games gold in a row until the scores came in on Enni Rukajarvi’s third and final attempt. Not meaning to take away from Enni’s achievement (shit, it’s more than any of us in the Whitelines office could ever dream of doing), but we were as surprised as Kier Dillon in the commentary box when her front 3, back 5 cab 7 combo was judged to be better than Jenny’s run. Jenny of course, with typical modesty, didn’t let it fuss her at all, saying she was “genuinely stoked to be on the podium”. But us? Well, call us biased, but we can’t help feeling Jenny was a bit robbed…
