Gluhwein or schnapps may generally be the drink you associate with snowboarding, be it a midday tipple or a night of après, but the Drake Cocktail could just be your new pick me up in the mountains.

Now in its sophomore year, the Drake Cocktail is a chubby pow chaser that’ll pines after deep snow and big slashes.

Who Is The Drake Cocktail For?

You’re an experienced rider who wants something reliable for powder days, but who doesn’t want to relegate your board to the garage when it’s not been puking.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

It’s pretty obvious that the Cocktail isn’t a board for jibbing around, the directional outline and sheer width mark it out as a snowboard that’s more than comfortable in the deeper snow. But the features that make it so good for pow days actually are the same ones that make it such a great board for downdays on the hardpack too.

The extra width comes into play when you’re laying down huge carves, the risk of toe-verhang is greatly reduced so you and can get down and dirty with your eurocarves without worrying. The setback stance and stubby tail give you the power to drive through your turns and slash with your back leg, really pumping through carves and holding though the arc of your turn, right through to release without washing out.

Construction and Materials

The shape of the Cocktail does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to floating in the deeper snow, and as we’ve said the features benefit on piste too, but Drake have some extra tricks up their sleeve to ensure this is a smooth criminal when it comes to groomers.

Their UR’INSANE Sidewalls soak up chatter when you’re blasting through chop and slop, absorbing vibrations down the edges for a super smooth ride and a steady carve when you’re up on an edge. The SINTRA 8000 base is as slick as it comes for Drake, retaining wax easily for a rocket fast ride day after day.

Roundup

Looks can be deceiving, and the Cocktail certainly had us fooled at first. Not just a board for powder days, the Cocktail might not be playing down the jib line, but it’ll be a loyal companion whether the tide is high or low.
