DJI Mavic Pro 2017-2018 Drone Review

We’re living in the drone age, and no mistake. While we may well be on a path to being snuffed out by genocidal Hunter-Killers, we can make the most of the time we’ve got left thanks to the DJI Mavic Pro.

“The DJI Mavic Pro folds down to an impossibly small size that can fit comfortably into a regular backpack”

If you’re serious about getting great footage in the mountains, then this is what you’ve been looking for. The DJI Mavic Pro drone folds down to an impossibly small size that can fit comfortably into a regular snowboard backpack, and is quick and easy to set up when it’s time to film.

The true 4K video looks amazing, especially one you’ve had a chance to fine-tune the settings. As for flying it, it’s obviously a good idea to get a lot of practice in, but the Mavic Pro’s various flight modes give you plenty of options – many of them ripe for snowboarding, whether it’s following a rider down a halfpipe or tracking them on a pow face.

The battery will give you nearly half an hour of flight time, but unless you like close calls then it’s wise to plan for about 20 minutes’ flying at a time. Spare batteries are always a good idea, as is a car charger.

“There all all sorts of tips and tricks for improving your shots, but the DJI Mavic Pro’s fundamentals are easy to master”

The camera on the DJI Mavic Pro captures a slightly narrower field of vision than some of its competitors. While this does make for a more cinematic look, it’s a little trickier to keep the action in shot when filming at close range.

Due to the camera’s fixed aperture, shooting snowy scenes can result in shaky footage caused by a faster shutter speed. Therefore it’s best to get some ND filters for your DJI Mavic Pro, such as TACO-R’s snap-on filters, which give you more control over your footage in the mountains. It’s also worth getting some decal stickers, making it stand out better against the snow. As you film.

Like with all camera equipment, there all all sorts of tips and tricks for improving your shots, but the DJI Mavic Pro’s fundamentals are easy to master. If you’re still not convinced, check out this video we shot in Laax – all of the drone footage was filmed on the DJI Mavic Pro.
