For the first time ever, Dirksen Derby, the iconic celebration of snowboarding, will take place in Europe. Switching the banked slalom for a splitboard race, you can now register for this epic race that will take place on the 21st to 22nd of March at legendary Olympic Host Resort, Axamer Lizum, Austria.
Launched in 2007, the Dirksen Derby has raised over $250,000 USD so far, for different groups and individuals, including environmental NGO’s, through 1% for the Planet. The fee for the event in Axamer Lizum is €50, and the proceeds go to support Naturfreunde and POW.
“I’m stoked to be bringing this incredibly fun and memorable weekend full of fast race times, strong friendships and fond memories to Europe for the first time.” – Josh Dirksen (Patagonia Snow ambassador and the brains behind the Derby).
How does it work? The event includes both Men’s and Women’s Categories, which welcome all ages and abilities. Basically, as splitboarding goes, you’ll need to get yourself both up and down the mountain on both Saturday and Sunday. The combined time of both days will determine your final time.
Registration runs from 23rd of January all the way to 5th of March. However, there’s a ‘first come first served’ policy, so once the 100 spots have been filled (of which 60 are for men and 40 for women), the registration will close.
