The term ‘bang for your buck’ gets bandied around a lot in snowboarding, but for a pretty decent boot that clocks in at under the £150 mark, there’s not a lot that can take on the Phase. A “basic” boot that’ll last you way past your first few days on the hill? Sounds good to us.

Who Is The DC Phase For?

To be fair, there’s a bunch of riders who’d get on with the Phase. You might be a newer rider who’s looking for something forgiving to start learning new skills, or you might be someone who’s on a bit of a tight budget and you’re looking for something softer for jibbing around.

Shell & Outsole

Now, let’s be real, for this price you can’t expect to be walking out of here with DC’s top shelf tech, but that’s kind of what makes the Phase so great. It’s no fuss, no frills snowboarding. Exactly what you need, and nothing you don’t.

OG Laces are a longstanding favourite of many riders, there’s nothing that can beat the security and adjustability of traditional laces (not to mention the price), however much quicker you think other methods may be. Plus if one snaps, just tie it back together and get back on the snow, easy as pie.

The sole itself is DC’s lightest, a one peice layer that absorbs chatter, dampens vibrations and soaks up some of the slap from heavy landings, all while keeping the price to a minimum.

Liner

The DC Phase are basic, but that doesn’t mean cheap or badly made, they still use a memory foam liner with multi-density EVA foam throughout to offer long term comfort.

Out the box comfort is important, but don’t forget the Phase’s can be heat moulded to give that personal fit, it’ll help the boot mold and map to the countours of your feet and ankles.

Roundup

The Phase from DC are pretty soft, so would suit a beginner who’s looking for something easy going to help dial in new tricks without kicking their arse, or a skint seasonaire who wants something loosey goosey for jibbing and buttering. Either way, you’re getting a whole lotta boot for your money.
