Founded by Rob Kaplan back in 1979, in Hawaii, Dakine’s roots stem from surfing and the name too comes from the Hawaiian phrase ‘da kine’ which translates as ‘the kind’.
Mr Kaplan began manufacturing the Dakine surf leash in Maui, Hawaii but moved the operations to Oregon only a few years later where Dakine responded to the rapidly expanding snowboard market with snowboard accessories and board bags.
As a brand, they’re perhaps most famously known for their luggage and backpacks. Take the iconic Heli Pack, that was introduced in 1996, for example. It’s now one of the go-to backpacks for any serious backcountry rider looking for a technical, lightweight, backpack option.
Their outerwear and glove offerings are also definitely worth a look if you spend any time at all off piste – especially as they are one of the few brands that have a women’s range that’s both technical and stylish.
All Dakine products are designed with the end user in mind and are built to withstand any condition you might experience on the hill. Even after all these years Dakine still prides itself on developing products that are the pinnacle of innovation, design, and quality.
Focusing on unique design and great quality whilst staying close to the spirit of action sports, Dakine have become a world leader, carving out a niche in making reliable and stylish accessories. Kick ass ladies Jamie Anderson and Jill Perkins rep for the women’s international snow team, alongside Louif Paradis, Kazu Kokubo and Wolle Nyvelt – some of the very best snowboarders on the planet.
