It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were celebrating the end of the nineties, and yet here we are at the end of another decade. We all breathed a sigh of relief when the year 2000 brought the curtain down on the decade of kappa tracksuits, crappy boy bands and erm… curtains. After it quickly became apparent that the ‘millennium bug’ was just a way to get rid of the global surplus of cheap Chinese keyrings and shit novelty mousemats – and not the end of the world as we knew it – we could get on with enjoying the first decade of the new century.
So what, looking back at it, have we achieved? Well I’m sure there’s plenty of inventions been invented, wars been prevented (or started for that matter!) and Nobel Prizes been won, but we at Whitelines aren’t really interested in that stuff. No, what we’re really interested in is the really important stuff – what we achieved in snowboarding terms.
So in the interests of celebrating you the sum of snowboarding achievements, we’ve compiled a countdown of ten awesome video parts showcasing some of the best (and the worst) things that have happened in snowboarding over the past ten years. This is not a definitive top ten list, and nor is it exhaustive. It’s more of a look back at how far our sport has come in it’s fourth decade of existence. Oh, and it’s also a great excuse to whip out some classic video parts from the archives.
We’ll be posting one of these classic clips every day for the next ten days, with the final one going up on New Year’s Day. First up is JP Walker’s section from the 2000 Forum Film The Resistance. Shot in the early days of the jibbing revolution, when JP and Jeremy Jones were taking it to the streets, this clip shows the big man making a name for himself as part of the original Forum 8. It also hows the early days of the Yo trend that was starting to make an impact in snowboarding at the time…
