CAPiTA

Our pick of this season's best CAPiTA snowboard gear

Around the dawn of the new millennium, snowboarding was witnessing an influx of ski brands, soy sauce companies and other fat cats vying for a slice of the pie. Firmly believing that ‘we own this sport, not them’, a band of riders got together and formed an idea that would become CAPiTA Snowboards. Contrary to just hitting the bottom line, CAPiTA wanted to showcase their creativity through the team’s riding, their sense of fun and their unique visual identity. Based in Seattle, CAPiTA Snowboards was formed by Jason Brown and Blue Montgomery in 2000, with the help of a few other fellow artists including Dustin Krysak and Corey Smith.

Image is one thing, product another, but wisely CAPiTA have always placed as much emphasis on the latter as the former and dived deeper down the rabbit hole with the establishment of The Mothership in 2015 – a factory/R&D facility with a minimised environmental footprint in Austria where they develop and build their boards (and great boards they are too).

All CAPiTA boards are made with top-quality materials in a production process that combines innovative shaping theories with solid materials. They also use eco-friendly materials that don’t sacrifice strength or durability. This environmental awareness not only helps make boards that defend awesome, but also helps to look after the planet as well. CAPiTA boards also have some of the most mental graphics out there; collaborations with artists like Jono Wood make every board a piece of art.

CAPiTA is a brand for truly progressive riders and their team reflects this go-hard freestyle spirit. Scott Stevens, Dan Brisse, Kazu Kokubo and Jess Kimura all ride for Capita and it’s safe to say that those three riders are pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation in snowboarding. Man, woman, child… if you’re on a CAPiTA you’ll happily devour everything.

CAPiTA Spring Break Slush Slasher 2022-2023

Whitelines Choice Winner: Best Volume Shifted Snowboard
PRICE: £385 / €419 / $430

Why do we go snowboarding? Cos’ it’s fun as hell, right? Corey Smith’s fleet of party wagons are a staple in the CAPiTA line. Fully embracing the weird and wonderful side of snowboarding, they bring creative shapes and experimental thinking very much to the forefront.

If you’ve not had the pleasure of riding the Spring Break Slush Slasher before, then saddle up buddy because this is pure, unadulterated good times. With a more responsive profile and a deeper sidecut for 22/23, we already loved the board but the updated Slush Slasher had our team of testers raving.

Who Is The CAPiTA Spring Break Slush Slasher For?

You’ve been around the block a few times, this is by no means your first rodeo and you’re looking for something a little different to inject some joy into your days on the hill. Powder is preferable, but you’ll happily settle for a warm spring day blasting around with your crew.

CAPiTA Mega Mercury Snowboard 2022-2023

PRICE: £685 / €750 / $800

We’ll be the first to admit that some of snowboarding’s tech jargon has become pretty alien, but then again, Mercury is the first planet in the Solar System, so who better to champion rocketship-esque technology?

And that’s exactly what you’ll find here. The Mega Merc takes advantage of the creme de la creme of CAPiTA’s bag of tricks, wrapped up nicely in their iconic Mercury outline. It’s Monsieur Longo’s board of choice so that should tell you all you need to know in terms of its favoured habitat and pop-ability. Proceed with caution.

Who Is The CAPiTA Mega Mercury For?

You’re an experienced rider who isn’t afraid to splash a little cash to get a truly next level experience. You’re probably a fan of the OG Mercury, but looking for something premium that’s noticeably lighter, faster and stronger.

CAPiTA Super D.O.A Snowboard 2022-2023

PRICE: $750

The Defenders of Awesome is about as iconic as they come in the snowboard world, and a few years back CAPiTA decided they’d go full mad scientist on the DOA to create something truly next level. Enter the Super DOA – faster, lighter, stronger and just a smidge stiffer than the OG (yes, a bit more expensive too). You still get the adaptable nature of the DOA that wants to hit the whole mountain with a bit of a freestyle focus, but now you get to enjoy it wrapped in the most premium package available at their factory, the Mothership. For 2022/23, CAPiTA have gone a step further and upgraded the Super DOA with a new faster base and a space age core that has us simpletons scratching our heads at the complexity of it.

CAPiTA Birds of a Feather Snowboard 2022-2023

PRICE: $500

The Birds of a Feather isn’t the ‘women’s DOA’, the DOA is the men’s Birds of a Feather… A funky all-mountain freestyle deck, with a super versatile shape and profile that lends itself to riding anywhere and everywhere. For this season we see an upgraded core to shave a few precious grams, but otherwise this is the snowboard we know and love that keeps us coming back season after season. Sitting underneath the snazzy new core you’ll find carbon booster strips running parallel to the sidewalls, these enhance the pop and dynamic energy of the BOAF, without adding unnecessary torsional stiffness. Factor in the camber running out past the inserts and the result is a poppy snowboard that wants to be thrown off lips, sidehits and natty features.

CAPiTA Navigator Snowboard 2022-2023

PRICE: $500

Unisex boards are all the rage these days, but rarely do you see a snowboard offered in such a huuuuge range of sizes, I mean 143-167 is pretty wild, right? But CAPiTA wanted to make a really solid freeride option for everyone, and so they did. The Navigator was built for surfy turns in the sidecountry, zipping through tree runs when it’s dumping and sniffing out stashes of powder long after the popular spots have been tracked out. With its long rockered nose, setback stance, tapered outline and curvy waist width the Navigator will float like a champ in deep snow. What’s more, these design features also lend themselves to deep carves on the hardpack when the conditions aren’t so prime. New for this season, we see an upgraded core and base to ensure the Navigator is still one of the funnest freeride options on the market.
