CAPiTA Snowboards | 2021-22 Gear Preview

As part of our new Envision Series, we take a first look at CAPiTA's new season snowboard product line

Welcome to our new Envision Series where we’ll be bringing you the latest gear previews from some of the most exciting new snowboard, boot, binding, outerwear and goggle products to drop for winter 2021-22. In this Envision episode, we’re taking a look at next year’s lineup from CAPiTA.

With the lack of trade shows and on-snow demos across Europe this winter we decided instead to bring the new season product previews directly to you with our new Envision Series. We’ve been chatting to some of our favourite brands and seeing what they’ve got in store for the coming season

“From park rats to avid backcountry explorers, CAPiTA has a little something for everyone”

From park rats to avid backcountry explorers, CAPiTA has a little something for everyone, they’re well known for their out there graphics and space age product line. They’ve been hard at work at the CAPiTA clean energy Mothership facility, researching, designing and testing new gear for 2021/22. With a few new snowboards, leaps forward in tech and upgraded materials across the board, the CAPiTA line up is looking spicier than ever.

Check out our product preview on the new CAPiTA snowboard gear for 2021/22 below, as well as our interview with Mark Dangler, CAPiTA’s Marketing Manager.

CAPiTA Birds Of A Feather 2021-2022

What products are you personally most stoked on?
MD: The Mega Merc is an all new series to the line that we’re really excited about. It’s inspired by design and on snow versatility of the Mercury series but packs a powerful punch of serious construction upgrades. Featuring an FSC® Certified 3D Thermopolymer Starship Core™ including ultralight post-consumer recycled plastics, the Mega Merc is bolstered by a MEGACARBON Array and a Megalite Skin™ Topsheet, yielding an exclusive performance to weight ratio for serious descents. The Mega Merc is the consummate anytime, any-place, all-terrain, snow-slaying series.

What new tech and materials can we look forward to seeing for 2021/22?
We’ve made advancements in the FSC Certified 3D Thermopolymer Cores of both the Mega Merc and the SUPER DOA. These cores utilise an advanced electronic sorting system which allows us to select mega-premium, reforestation certified, Poplar graded by weight and grain consistency.

Comparable to Paulownia in strength to weight ratio, this core retains the poppiness of Poplar, and then achieves a signature feel by adding bonded post-consumer recycled Thermopolymer (recycled plastic bottle additives) channels to form an advanced hybrid core. This mega-premium core will blast you into space and beyond.

“One exciting update for us is the complete redesign of a CAPiTA classic, The Indoor Survival”

Have you made any specific changes or leaps within your women’s range?
We’re excited to expand our women’s collection with new sizes in the Birds of a Feather, Paradise, and Space Metal Fantasy series. Specifically with the Birds of a Feather we’ll be offering three new wide sizes to accommodate for the growing requests for larger womens sizes for all mountain riding. In addition to those updates we’ll also be offering a Jess Kimura Mini for young shredders getting their first experiences on snow.

Where are we seeing innovation within your existing line?
One exciting update for us is the complete redesign of a CAPiTA classic, The Indoor Survival. We’ve kept the nose and tail shape which has always been an appealing design of the series, but now we’ve made the chassis wider to accommodate more riders.

Additionally, we set the inserts back a .5” to make this series a directional twin and we upgraded the series with a new P2 Superlight Core, new Titanal Centerline Booster, new Holysheet Fiberglass with Magic Bean Resin and a Quantum Drive sintered base.

Any cool artist collabs in the pipeline?
The visual realm of the collection is once again guided by Ephraim Chui. Eph is a mad genius in imagining and creating these graphics and has been at the helm of each CAPiTA collection since the very early years.

“Corey Smith brings his creative vision to the D.O.A. series once again”

We’re excited to collab with Hong Kong based artist, Pro Dip on the Outisders series this year, Simon Riviere on the Children of the Gnar, Ganji from Three Tides Tatoo once again on the Kazu Kokubo Pro model and Jari Salo on the Navigator series.

Of course, Corey Smith brings his creative vision to the D.O.A. series once again and as well has created another incredible Spring Break Snowboards collection.

Is there an overall theme / inspiration driving your 21/22 line?
Cosmic Vibration Manipulation is the theme driving the graphic elements across the collection this year – it’s all about the magic of believing and harnessing positivity to produce a better reality.

“It’s all about the magic of believing and harnessing positivity to produce a better reality”

Covid has shaken up everything this year. Are there any big changes taking place with you guys ahead of next season?
With Covid, our goal was to present an all new and compelling collection this year with some of the best graphics we’ve ever put on boards, a few all new models, upgrades in designs, tech additives and sizing options. Our only carry over design for 21/22 is the Neo Slasher split.

Do you have any new sustainability stories for next season? Has any of your production moved to become more sustainable?
We don’t have a rotating tag line each season when it comes to responsible manufacturing, our story is not a one year campaign, it is who we are as a company and what we have committed the direction of the brand to. We’ve made massive investments to control our own production and build not only what we believe are the best snowboards in the world but to do so responsibly, powering the process entirely by clean energy. CAPiTA Snowboards are hand-crafted in Austria with 100% clean energy at our own production facility, THE CAPiTA MOTHERSHIP.

“Mothership Advanced Research Station One is the world’s first 100% clean energy snowboard production facility”

MARS1: Mothership Advanced Research Station One is the world’s first 100% clean energy snowboard production facility. Nestled in a beautiful and natural setting, it stands alone as a technologically advanced snowboarding hub. Our on-site board testing slope enables quick turn progression and facilitates experiences that fuel our passion, connects us with our community, and inspires us on our path of world-class snowboard production.

CAPiTA’s Mothership

The Mothership is powered by an in-house hydro activated NH3 thermal energy system. As the CAPiTA base station and manufacturing home, The Mothership – distinguished as a flagship of responsible manufacturing – was awarded the Energy Globe Award for Austria in 2017.

Known as Nature’s Nobel Prize, with 178 participating countries, the Energy Globe is today’s most prestigious environmental award. It is presented annually to projects focusing on renewable energies and the conservation of resources.
