We love slushy spring days, really, we do, but there’s just a certain je ne sais quoi that can only be found when you’re strapping in before your first powder day of the season. The Navigator is a staple in CAPiTA’s Alpine Assault Force, it’s your everyday pow board, think less ball-shrinking descents in the Alaskan wilderness and more party laps with your crew after a fresh dump of snow.

Who Is The CAPiTA Navigator For?

Park? Who’s he? You’re a rider who’s always on the hunt for fresh tracks, whether it’s dipping off into the sidecountry or hiking from a chair, you’re always down to score some lines. The Navigator delivers when it’s been spewing but has a few tricks up its sleeve to keep things fun when the tide’s low too.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

When it comes to floating in deep snow, there’s several ways to get the job done, and the Navigator uses them all. With its big ol’ tapered shape helping to sink the tail, the elongated rocker in the nose keeping it above water sniffing out the next turn, the extra width for extra buoyancy and the setback inserts to shift your weight down the board, riding powder is a breeze.

The Navigator stiffens up towards the tail, which combined with its elongated camber gives you a great platform for slashing turns and driving power through your back leg, whether its surfy pow laps or railing on hardpack.

Construction and Materials

We love long-time CAPiTA collaborator Jari Salo’s artwork on the Navigator, but it’s what’s underneath that really gets us going. In addition to the Carbon Fibre Beams found in the nose, CAPiTA have added strips of cork running parallel from the contact point allowing you to smash through chop and slop whilst still keeping it damp towards the front foot.

The dual wood core is sandwiched between biax fibreglass for a more playful torsional feel, going hand in hand with the mellow overall flex and giving you the ability to really manipulate the Navigator underfoot.

It’s not the highest spec in the CAPiTA line by any stretch of the imagination, but it doesn’t have to be. The money you save here could either go towards a more freestyle specific board to round out your quiver or chasing the storm so you can make the most of the Navigator for as many days as possible.

“It’s a great companion for hurtling through tree runs, laying down carves on piste and generally having a good time snowboarding”

Roundup

As much as we wish it was, for most of us, not every day is a powder day, and while the Navigator certainly excels when you’re sniffing out freshies it’s still a great board for resort riding. It’s a great companion for hurtling through tree runs, laying down carves on piste and generally having a good time snowboarding.
