Why we chose the CAPiTA Mega Merc Snowboard: Stepping off the scales decidedly featherweight but packing a seriously heavyweight punch, the CAPiTA Mega Merc is a law unto itself.

After the success of the beefed up Super DOA, CAPiTA have turned their attention to another all-mountain favourite. As the name suggests, the Mega Merc is the herculean big brother to the CAPiTA Mercury, the snowboard you know and love, but with all the dials turned up to 11.

Cherry picking the absolute crème de la crème of CAPiTA’s tech and working with riders like Arthur Longo and Kevin Backstrom, the Mega Merc is set to tick boxes you didn’t even know you had.

Who Is The CAPiTA Mega Merc For?

You’re the kind of rider who prioritises… well, everything. Speed, agility, power, lightweight construction, finesse in the air, float in the powder, aggressive response on groomers, the whole enchilada. There’s no part of the mountain you don’t want to attack, and you’re not afraid to splash a little more cash to get the VIP treatment.

You’ll happily spend a few extra pennies for top shelf liquor rather than house spirit, it’s still whisky- but this is whisky, y’know?

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

There’s no taper or super directional outline to speak of with the Mega Merc so taking a few switch laps definitely isn’t ruled out, but thanks to its 0.5inch setback, early rise rockered tips and attenuated construction it still retains the buoyancy and accuracy of a machine built for technical descents and cruisy powder laps.

You’re able to centre your stance for a more balanced feel when you’re riding hardpack or lapping the park, the midbody camber brings the lively and dynamic feel across variable terrain. CAPiTA’s Death Grip reverses the sidecut in the middle of the board to add an extra point of contact for increased edge hold through the arc of your turns, a nice touch when its corduroy, a lifesaver when it’s icy.

“Not for the faint of heart, this is truly a tour de force of engineering”

Construction and Materials

No half measures here at all, CAPiTA have pulled out all the stops and thrown everything they have to offer into this brand new all-mountain freeride machine. Not for the faint of heart, this is truly a tour de force of engineering.

Thanks to the 60% weight reduction of its 3D profiled Megalite Skin Topsheet the Mega Merc floats like a butterfly, but with the inlaid MEGACARBON Array bringing four times the power of previous carbon additives it stings like a supercharged sledgehammer.

FSC® Certified 3D Thermopolymer Starship Core is quite a mouthful. But then again, it’s quite a core. Cutting edge technology allows CAPiTA to pick only the best wood available and add thermopolymer channels to ensure the ultimate in strength, snap, pop and power.

You’ll be thankful for the instant reaction from the Triax Holysheet configuration because the Mega Merc has one speed and one speed only: top. The lightning fast Hyperdrive Base comes with a professional stone grind to facilitate high speed charging from the very first minute you strap in.

“As the lines between freeride and freestyle continue to blur, we see snowboards like the Mega Merc really come into their own”

Roundup

As the lines between freeride and freestyle continue to blur, we see snowboards like the Mega Merc really come into their own. With a mix of features that benefit on a variety of terrain and across a multitude of conditions, this is a snowboard that doesn’t pull a single punch.

Building on the already cult-like status of the Mercury, the Mega Merc is lighter, stronger, faster, and yes- more expensive. The addition of all the top-shelf tech naturally warrants a price increase from the standard Mercury — not mega bucks mind you, but enough to put a distinct difference between the two. Realistically, you’ll have a superb time on either, but this is like a Formula 1 vs Formula 2, they both do the same thing in theory, but which you pick depends on the experience you want and how close to the limit you’re looking to push it.

Trade Secrets

Mark Dangler – Marketing Manager, CAPiTA

“Fully supercharged and tech packed version of the popular Mercury series, this board is the peak of anytime, any condition, free ride versatility. The Mega Merc features an advanced hybrid core, carbon additives, fiberglass layup, base material finish and topsheet material.

Interesting Note – 150g lighter than the Mercury series thanks to the one of a kind FSC Certified 3D Thermopolymer Starship Core which integrates bonded post-consumer recycled Thermopolymer channels to with poplar wood to form and advanced hybrid core, as well as 3D milled channels to shave weight and distribute energy out to the nose and tail for added pop and also the Megalite Skin Topsheet which shaves weight in comparison to our traditional topsheet materials.”
