Like many of her peers before her, Jess Kimura’s progression through snowboarding has seen her move away from the urban playground and embrace the big mountain arena. As such, her pro-model snowboard has evolved over the years, upping the specs and redesigning from the ground up to produce one of the most technical women’s boards in the game.

With its freeride friendly shape, the Equalizer is always on the prowl for pockets of powder, but with a few tricks up its sleeve it also functions as a powerful in-bounds resort destroyer.

Who Is The CAPiTA Equalizer For?

Ladies who want a no holds barred all-mountain freeride weapon. The power, speed and aggression on offer would be well suited to intermediate and up riders looking to tear it up on piste, surf powder fields and tackle technical descents.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

CAPiTA aren’t pulling punches with this one, if you’re a rider who likes a nice gentle day out on the hill, this probably isn’t for you. A card-carrying member of CAPiTA’s Alpine Assault Force, the Equalizer was built for charging hard and digging deep.

The shape marks it out as a snowboard that predominantly rides one way, so jibbers and park rats would do better looking at something like the Birds of a Feather, but with its elongated nose, setback inserts and blunted tail the Equalizer thrives in deep snow. Despite its prowess in powder, there’s no taper to speak of so center your bindings on it and you can still take a switch lap or two.

The specially designed Alpine V1 Profile brings the best of each bend, powerful camber between the feet for power and pop, rocker in the nose for surfy float and a flatter tail for driving through turns and slashing. All in all, you get a little something for every scenario and all conditions.

Construction and Materials

As the old adage goes ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ and CAPiTA have taken that to heart with the Equalizer. We’ve loved riding this snowboard over the last few seasons, and it’s nice to see they haven’t changed it over the last year just for the sake of it.

Synthetic meets natural with the Equalizer’s Technora & Flax Boosters, running parallel from the contact points in the nose down to the tail they help to absorb chatter and stiffen the board for smashing through chop and chunder.

No prizes for guessing where the P2 Superlight Core gets its name… Yep, it’s really lightweight. The lively wood wore is sandwiched between biax and triax fibreglass to stiffen it up torsionally for a quicker and snappier response and finished off with CAPiTA’s Quantum Drive Base to keep you at the front of the pack.

Roundup

The Equalizer was designed to ‘level the playing field’ and offer a women’s snowboard that’s just as high-quality as the men’s. Take a leaf out of Jess’ book, don’t wait to be invited, create your own space in snowboarding. If the door won’t open, smash the windows, tear down the roof and punch through the glass ceiling. “I didn’t ask to be let in, I bulldozed my way in”- Jess Kimura, The Bomb Hole, July 2021.
