Why we chose the Burton Step On Men’s Genesis Snowboard Bindings: This newcomer to the Step On range, based on a veteran of the strap line, has already asserted itself as the one to beat.

We’ve long been a fan of Burton’s reluctance to drop or rename a binder just for the sake of it; as a result, the brand has built up an arsenal of much-loved models that have proven their worth over and over again.

It made sense, then, for the B to draw inspiration from its most reliable workhorses when it came to expanding its line of easy-in-easy-out bindings. For obvious reasons, it’s even less surprising to see the one with the most eye-catching highback to be the one adapted for Step On in 2021/22. The Burton Genesis has a flex in the sweetspot for all-mountain riding, and is made from premium materials – a winning combination, and one that you can now enjoy with even less faff.

Who Is The Burton Step On Men’s Genesis For?

The ideal rider for these is – you guessed it – anyone who loves the original Genesis and is keen to see what Step On has to offer. Realistically, though, anyone who favours comfort, creativity and convenience will get on famously with these. We certainly did.

Baseplate

The chassis of the Burton Genesis Step On has the same DNA as both the classic Genesis, and the original Burton Step On model. In fact, the 30/70 ratio of fibreglass to nylon is found in most Burton binders. Why? Because it’s a tried-and-tested blend that offers great response. It can also take an absolute pounding, to the point where Burton offers a lifetime warranty.

Like all models in the Step On range, the Genesis also boasts ‘FullBED’ cushioning that provides an even, consistent pad for your feet. It also features redesigned toe hooks – nothing hugely different from years past, but nevertheless an improvement on an already amazingly intuitive system.

Straps and Highbacks

The highback is the moneymaker here ( it was never going the be the straps, obvs…). The ‘Kickback Hammock’ design features a unique two-part construction; your classic nylon-composite skeleton, but with an interior rubber pad that is attached, but separate.

You’ll run out of superlatives to describe how comfy this feels once you’re strapped in (or stepped on, rather), especially once you get up to speed and experience how well the hammock deals with unwanted vibrations. Even when cruising, though, you get the benefits of a perfectly-hugged boot. Foot fatigue doesn’t even get a look-in.

We’re not talking carbon-fibre levels of stiffness and response – in fact, this is actually the mellowest of all the Step On binders for 2021/22, including the original eponymous model. However, the more forgiving flex pattern has always been part of the Genesis’ appeal, and it’s still more than capable of stepping up to meet the needs of even the boldest riders.

Roundup

We know that not everyone has been converted to the strapless approach yet – but if you’re a ‘Clunk Click Every Trip’ kind of rider, then you should really check out the new Burton Genesis Step On. In terms of accessibility alone (a factor slightly dimmed by the price tag), this may be the new standout model in the Step On range.

We’ll say it again; comfort, creativity, convenience. Seriously, what more can you ask for?
