The Burton Rulers are the consummate go anywhere, do anything boot in the Burton line, a real jack of all trades they’ll happily take up the challenge across the whole hill. Slightly specc’d down than something like the Ion, but this is reflected in the price difference, as well as the more amicable flex.

A staple in the Burton line, and coming in Dual Boa, Speed Lace and a wide version, the Ruler’s appeal is far reaching. Park, piste, pow, you name it the Ruler…well, rules it.

Who Is The Burton Ruler For?

The Ruler’s mellow flex would suit a wide range of riders, from novices trying to lock in skills up to advanced rippers looking for something a little softer or something a bit more wallet friendly. Really aggressive riders might find them a bit lacking, but for anyone and everyone else they’re a great bang for your buck boot.

Shell & Outsole

A boot like the Ruler has to be able to do a bit of everything, so as well as all the bells and whistles found in the liner, the outer shell also boasts a layer of B3 dampening gel to cushion underfoot to reduce foot fatigue and take some of the slap out of big landings if you’re ripping through the park, plus a pretty solid tread for hiking lines and making it through the icy car park in one peice.

Pick up the Ruler and you’ll be surprised just how light it is. It might not be quite as rugged as some others on the market, but you certainly won’t feel like you’re clomping around in a pair of ski boots with these. This is partly due to the use of largely synthetic materials in the makeup, and the overall reduction in size thanks to the liner being offset inside the boot to minimise wasted space.

Liner

Internally, the Ruler uses a thermo-mouldable liner to accurately and securely lock your foot into the boot, with a Velcro cuff to keep it flush to your leg to avoid rubbing down the shin. To keep you warm and dry, the internal gusset seals the boot to the elements, whilst there’s also a layer of foil to reflect heat back into the boot, and best of all- Man Fur.

Manly men like manly things, and is there anything more rugged and manly than Man Fur? Yeah, okay, it sounds weird and kinda dated (c’mon now Burton it’s 2021…) but in essence Burton’s Man Fur is just a soft layer to increase comfort.

“…if you don’t know what you want, or you want a bit of everything then you’ve come to the right place”

Roundup

Overall, the Ruler’s pros are also its cons. If you’re looking for something super specific for extreme backcountry missions, or a loose jib boot then this ain’t for you, but on the flip side if you don’t know what you want, or you want a bit of everything then you’ve come to the right place.
