Why we chose the Burton Men’s AK Japan Gore-Tex PRO Guide Jacket and AK Japan Gore-Tex PRO Guide Bib Snowboard Outerwear: Outerwear specifically designed for Japow – the first step to actually purchasing that ticket to Hokkaido.

Burton’s AK line offers the brands most premium outerwear and has been Burton’s team riders first choice for over two decades. Originating in Alaska, where the product was first developed and tested, the AK line is built to withstand the harshest of climates while providing both solid performance and style.

With the help of two legendary backcountry guides, Masanori Takeuchi and Hiroshi Fujiwara, Burton expanded the AK line for the Japanese market releasing a collection including the 3L AK Japan Gore-Tex Pro Guide Jacket and AK Japan Gore-Tex Pro Guide Bib pants. Based on their success overseas, Burton decided to release the line to the international market last season thus making it one of the most technical outerwear in their entire collection.

Who Are The Burton Men’s AK Japan Gore-Tex PRO Guide Jacket and AK Japan Gore-Tex PRO Guide Bib For?

If hiking through nipple deep Japow is your cup of tea, then the AK Japan Gore-Tex Pro Guide Jacket and AK Japan Gore-Tex Pro Guide Bib will help you keep dry in the deepest powder and through the most hardcore adventures.

Materials and Construction

When it comes to durable outerwear, Gore-Tex Pro has earned its spot as the industry leader. This world-class fabric embodies both extreme waterproofing and breathability, whilst being windproof and rigid too.

What differentiates Gore-Tex Pro from standard Gore-Tex is that the membrane is more breathable. This makes the fabric more suited for serious outdoor enthusiasts as the outerwear remains more comfortable in extreme conditions.

Gore-Tex Pro is also only offered in a 3L construction and uses a Micro-Grid backer as the inner lining opposed to Polyurethane that is used by original Gore-Tex. Not only does this makes the outerwear more breathable but also lighter, which makes a difference for longer touring missions.

“For added safety, there’s a RECCO reflector on both parts of the outfit”

Fit and Features

Both the jacket and the pants are designed with a regular fit, meaning they’ll provide a comfortable silhouette that fits in all the right places without being too baggy or slim. However, remember to size up one size for standard AK sizing as this is made according to Japanese sizing (choose XXL for XL and so on…).

Embodying all the necessary features, the AK Japan Guide jacket comes with a zippered radio pocket with a port and a right chest device pocket. And, as no two heads are completely alike, the StormForm Hood is made to fit with precision no matter the size of the head. The contoured shape fits perfectly over any helmet and integrates seamlessly with goggles too.

As for the bibs, they feature zippered hand-warmer pockets and a waist pocket with an interior key clip, hook-and-loop closure, a glove-friendly beacon pocket at the waist and a power mesh interior device pocket.

The seams have also been fully taped with Gore-Seam tape on both the jacket and the pants, making sure every seam is sealed providing for complete waterproofness. For added safety, there’s a RECCO reflector on both parts of the outfit.

“Made for backcountry missions, it’d be a waste for this outfit to never explore the wilderness that lies beyond the resort”

Roundup

Anyone who has a weak spot for durable, lightweight, minimalistic snowboard outerwear will not be disappointed by what Burton has to offer with their Japan Guide jacket and bibs. Made for backcountry missions, it’d be a waste for this outfit to never explore the wilderness that lies beyond the resort.
