Burton Lexa X 2020-2021 Women’s Snowboard Bindings Review

Why we chose the Burton Lexa X Snowboard Bindings: Little miss Lexa came back from summer break with some X-Rated nip and tuck.

The Burton Lexa has long been heralded as one of the best women’s snowboard bindings ever made. It’s a long-time team and fan favourite, and this year Burton have gone back to the drawing board to release the Lexa X- its supercharged big sister. The Lexa you know and love, with a few choice upgrades to bolster on snow performance and deliver a more aggressive ride.

If the classic Lexa’s are a nice cup of tea, the Lexa X is an Irish Coffee chock full of caffeine and booze, with a tab of acid thrown in for good measure. They’re for high octane snowboarding, balls to the wall sessions on the hill and a wild ride from start to finish.

So what sets the Lexa X apart from its sister in arms? The main difference is found in the new stiffer highbacks and the addition of the Heel Hammock. This nifty bit of kit sits in line with the heelcup and the grippy surface wraps round the back of your boot with a claw like grip. It works both like a suspension system and to eliminate any loss of response, moving with your boot rather than just rubbing against it.

The Lexa X also features Burton’s Double Take Buckles in the toe and heel to speed up the tightening process and to ensure they’ll still lock in if one side happens to ice up.

The straps themselves are lightweight and pliant, wrapping round the boot to avoid hotspots over the foot. The updated Supergrip Capstrap 2.0 wraps round the front of your boots, with the grippy rubberised inside offering extra traction. Some people like to wear their toe strap over the top of their boot, these people are wrong. Luckily Burton have your back and these won’t sit over the top of your boot even if you want them to, stopping you from making this most jerry of gaffes.

Ergonomically designed asymmetric highbacks offer more support on the medial side, following the silhouette of your leg. They can be rotated to match your individual specifications so you can really calibrate your ride.

“While the Lexa X can’t wash away your indignity, it can help with the slap landing”

Knuckling a kicker has to be up there as one of the worst things that can happen on a snowboard. If the tail between your legs shame wasn’t enough, there’s the shockwaves travelling up through your legs and threatening to dislodge your spine through your mouth. While the Lexa X can’t wash away your indignity, it can help with the slap landing. B3 Gel in the heel of the Lexa X helps to soak up some of the tingle to help smooth out the situation.

Stiff and hard hitting, the Lexa X swings heavyweight punches and doesn’t stand for mistakes. As such, the barrier to entry is higher than average. This isn’t ideal for a novice rider, the firmer flex relays movement instantly, meaning wobbles and blunders won’t slip through the net. On the flip side, if you’re a confident and experienced rider, the Lexa X will keep you on your toes and whatever you put into it, it’ll give back tenfold.

The Lexa X is available with both Re:Flex and EST baseplates, for 4×4, Channel and 3D mounting.
