Why We Chose The Burton Lexa: In our mind, this is the premier women’s binding on the market for the price.

It’s hard to imagine the landscape of snowboarding without the Burton Lexa, it’s been a Whitelines team favourite since its launch and continues to impress us year on year. Maybe we’re a bit biased because we ride them, but this is a binding that really can do it all. Whether you get your jollies cutting up the corduroy, blasting through the park or sniffing out pockets of powder, the Burton Lexa’s have got you covered.

Who Are The Burton Lexa For?

It’s difficult to categorise the Burton Lexa and pigeonhole it to a specific rider because, to us, the Lexa’s are great for everything. Perhaps too stiff for a complete beginner, but otherwise there’s plenty to grow into here.

Baseplate

The Burton Lexa’s come in two variations, the EST and Re:Flex models, both have their advantages and which you choose depends largely on which snowboard you’re riding. Burton uses their proprietary Channel System in all their snowboards and manufactures EST bindings to work perfectly in tandem, so if you’re running a Burton board then we’d recommend those. Using two screws instead of the traditional four to minimise interference and allow your snowboard to flex more naturally underfoot.

The Re:Flex version is usually used for a traditional insert snowboard and uses four screws to mount for a locked-in feel. (Note- Both iterations come with the two sets of discs for universal compatibility, Re:Flex can be used for channel snowboards and vice versa).

The baseplate itself is made up of a super rugged nylon/glass composite which maintains reactivity whilst being relatively lightweight. It’s the material of choice for a lot of Burton’s binding line for this reason, its one-piece construction offers a consistent feel, so you’re not sacrificing on performance.

Straps and Highbacks

When you’re looking for the ultimate in response, there’s no cheat quite like cracking your forward lean all the way down. (Spoiler alert- our bodies aren’t symmetric, because of our feet and legs it’s a lot easier to put power into your toeside turns). Forward lean forces your calves forward and your knees to bend, shifting your weight across the board and this in turn gives you access to a powerful heelside turn. You can thank us later.

Further upping the response, the highback is also rotationally adjustable allowing you to line it up with your snowboard edge. Again, thank us later.

Burton uses their Hammockstrap 2.0, the larger surface area and malleable material allow the strap to mould around your boot for a really secure and locked-in feel with no pressure points. Burton’s also milled out the strap to allow it to stay open, it’s not completely necessary for performance but when you’re skating in a lift queue it’s certainly a nice to have.

Roundup

Bindings are often the bridesmaid and rarely the bride, but for 2023/24 the Burton Lexa’s can pull their white dress out of storage and pop the bubbly because they’re taking centre stage. There are both more expensive and cheaper alternatives out there, but for us, there isn’t much that can hold a candle to the Lexa’s. We consider them an investment, a binding that you’re unlikely to skill out of, and if you do, you’re probably sponsored anyway…

Pros:

  • Value for money is phenomenal when you consider all the elements
  • Zero compromise on the durability

Cons:

  • A little pricier than some on the market

Tester’s Verdict

Joy Dutch – Wordsmith, Whitelines

“Maybe I’m a bit biased because I’ve been riding Lexa’s for years, but I simply cannot fault these bindings. They tick all the boxes I’m looking for in a binding- mid-stiff, comfy around the whole foot, soak up chatter and they’re easy to get in and out of. There’s nothing these bindings can’t do, and I think it would take something awfully special to get me to ride anything else. Park, piste, pow and everything in between the Lexa’s are a winner.”
