Burton Dunmore 2017-2018 Snowboard Jacket Review

Some snowboard outerwear is happy to be just that, concentrating on function without worrying about style too much (at least, not in the way the average person on the street defines it). Usually it’s the high-tech, freeride-focused brands that can afford to do it this way, as their target audience expects nothing less.

“From the off, it’s clear that fashion is a big consideration here – check out the collar detail, for example – but function hasn’t taken a back seat”

Most snowboarders, however, are looking for something that will perform impeccably on a shred trip, but that’s equally acceptable for a stomp up the high street on a winter’s night at home. That’s where models like the Burton Dunmore snowboard jacket come in.

From the off, it’s clear that fashion is a big consideration here – check out the collar detail, for example – but function hasn’t taken a back seat. The specs are industry standard, and more than capable of keeping you warm and dry when getting after it on the mountain. This year all colourways now feature 10,000g breathability ratings, so whichever you go for will do a fine job of expelling sweat and keeping your skin from becoming clammy and uncomfortable.

The ‘Living Lining’ helps regulate your temperature, and the lightweight insulation gives you a fighting chance against colder conditions without preventing the Dunmore’s use in warmer weather.

Cotton hoodies are all well and good, but are often found lacking when used as a layer for snowboarding. The Dunmore gets round this by incorporating a fleece-lined hood into the design, allowing you to opt for something more practical underneath without losing the hood style. A drawstring at the front lets you fine-tune the fit, and you can even remove it if you want. When you get to the end-of-season slush, that’s a feature you’ll really appreciate.

Meanwhile at the front, a microfleece panel keeps your face protected when you’re fully zipped up, and the same material lines the inside of the pockets. Your phone can be safely stashed in the chest pocket too.

Fashion-conscious riders have to be careful that they’re not going for some fly-by-night fad that will look silly in a year’s time, but that’s no danger with the Burton Dunmore snowboard jacket. Expect to see its workwear-like stylings on the mountains for many years to come.
