OK, so it’s far from the most elegantly-named snowboard out there. However, the new Burton Dump Truck splitboard isn’t for artistic gliding down a mellow powder field. It’s for pushing the boundaries of your riding, far from those of the pistes.

“The Burton Dump Truck is directional in every aspect, with a medium taper to compliment the profile and flex”

Like most splitboards, the Burton Dump Truck is directional in every aspect, with a medium taper to compliment the profile and flex. Sizeable and stiff, it’ll blast down a face with ease, allowing you to feel the G’s and leave epic lines in your wake.

The splitboard-specific core varies in thickness as you move from nose to tail, so there’s no unnecessary weight – a good thing for the ascent as well as the way down. Combining it with Burton’s own splitboard bindings will make life easier, but any binder can be mounted to the system.

A full layer of carbon gives it an additional level of response without going overboard, and – like all sticks in the Burton Family Tree line – it features a recycled version of the brand’s trademark ‘WFO’ sintered base.

Those looking for something big and beasty can’t go wrong with the Burton Dump Truck splitboard. If you like the sound of this one but are happy to stick to lifts and boot-packing, there’s a solid version available too.

Tester’s Verdict

Sam McMahon – whitelines.com

“Earlier in the season I was able to give the standard Dump Truck a go. Whilst it did its job blasting around pistes and scoring the odd bit of pow, I can’t say I was hugely enamoured with it. However, taking the split version out for some spring touring on heavy snow, the board really came into its element, blasting through tough crud and not giving a hint of letting some truly grim conditions slow it down.

“It’s heavier than I’d usually like, but the power you get from the turns (in no small part down to the 15mm taper) is unmatchable”

It’s heavier than I’d usually like, but the power you get from the turns (in no small part down to the 15mm taper) is unmatchable, especially when you find yourself in changeable snow conditions. Floats like a butterfly, stings like an F1 car with a javelin taped to the hood.”
