UPDATE: Check out our review of the 2018/2019 Burton Custom X here
It may not be as telegenic as carving or side hits – and may conjure images of lycra-clad record-chasers – but screaming down a perfectly-groomed run at warp speed remains one of snowboarding’s simplest pleasures. The Burton Custom X is built with just that in mind, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better piste-charger.
“The Burton Custom X takes the all-mountain credentials of the classic Custom (directional twin design, camber profile, the varying-thickness ‘Squeezebox’ core) and turns it all up to 11”
The Burton Custom X takes the all-mountain credentials of the classic Custom (directional twin design, camber profile, the varying-thickness ‘Squeezebox’ core) and turns it all up to 11. The Squeezebox is enhanced with carbon just outside the feet for more pop, and the wooden core is lighter yet just as strong.
The whole thing is stiffer from nose to tail, which is exactly what you need when you really want to hoon it, but it’s no plank. The Burton Custom X has a lightweight, lively feel that responds to your every command – although in less experienced hands, the lack of margin for error could prove disastrous.
It’s definitely not for everyone, but when it’s under the feet of the right rider there really is nothing like the Burton Custom X. If you’ve mastered the mountain and outgrown your current weapon, here’s an upgrade well worth considering.
