Combo profiles are fairly Marmite – some riders would never sacrifice the power and control of regular camber, whilst others love having some of the benefits of rocker with less of the drawbacks. If you’re in the latter camp, the Burton Custom Flying V was made with you in mind.

“No matter the conditions or terrain, the Burton Custom Flying V Can deliver”

By adding a rocker section under the waist of the classic Custom, Burton have made a board that maintains a lot of the all-round cred of its long-serving workhorse, but that offers a mellower ride in certain conditions. Most obviously, that rocker bend makes flexing the board far easier – something that’s useful both when pressing on the piste, and when trying to stay afloat in powder.

And that’s always been the idea with the Custom family – they’re boards you can take anywhere. No matter the conditions or terrain, the Burton Custom Flying V Can deliver. One possible downside is reduced grip and control when hammering hard-packed piste, but the ‘Frostbite’ edges that stick out from under your bindings help to offset this a little. Unless you’re absolutely flying, you’ll be able to stay stable.

It’ll never be as popular as its classic-camber brother, but the Burton Custom Flying V isn’t just cashing in on its good name. For the easier-going riders out there, this one could edge it.

Tester’s Verdict

Darren Williamsthesnowboardshop.co.uk

“The Flying V version of this well-known snowboard is awesome fun to ride, and benefits from the perfect combination of poppy responsive camber along with a forgiving & playful rocker.

“The underfoot camber sections with Frostbite edges give guaranteed hold even in the sketchiest conditions”

With a directional shape and set-back stance, I love charging hard straight from the lift. The underfoot camber sections with Frostbite edges give guaranteed hold even in the sketchiest conditions, so you can feel confident it’s not going to wash out when you least expect it.”
