You know exactly what this board is made for and it ain’t seshing the jib line. Unless you’re living in a reality of daily heli trips and bottomless powder days this isn’t a snowboard for every day of the season. Quite the opposite in fact. This is a once in a blue moon kind of snowboard, the jewel in the crown of your quiver. You wait patiently and quiver in anticipation when the conditions are just right and you can saddle up this monster and ride into battle.

Who Is The Borealis Leviathan For?

The barrier to entry here is two-fold, firstly it’s a pretty stiff, aggressive machine, so newer riders probably want to look elsewhere lest they risk the wrath of this deep-sea creature. Then you consider the biblical proportions, and the Leviathan definitely isn’t for everyone. Coming in only one size, an intimidating 164, smaller riders will probably run into trouble when trying to control the board, especially thanks to the uber-wide waist width.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

A nose like a Proboscis monkey, a waist as thick as WWE’s Big Show after an all you can eat buffet and a uber-deep swallow tail, on a person these features would be most unsightly. On a snowboard? My gosh, it’s beautiful. You don’t have to know anything about snowboard shaping to know that the Leviathan will float in any and all conditions.

Factor in the setback inserts, tapered shape and rockered bend and it’s almost laughable. Forget the Titanic, when Borealis say ‘unsinkable’, they mean it.

Okay so, there may be times when you’re not blessed with the conditions in which the Leviathan excels, in which case it’ll still give you a hell of a ride on the hardpack. The camber running through the body, extra wide width, and stubby tail will give as good as they get when you want to get down and dirty with some laid out eurocarves, but make no mistake, the Leviathan belongs in the steep and deep.

Construction and Materials

Swallow tails can sometimes feel a little loose through the end portion of your turns, so Borealis have bolstered the Leviathan with carbon stringers fanning out from the rear insert pack to the contact point. These’ll help you keep strong and sturdy right up until breaking point when you’re tipping and gripping, plus offer some extra snap through the tail for dynamic movement.

The Leviathan is reinforced with carbon stringers running parallel down the sidewalls, helping you to hold out on your edges and absorbing chatter, alongside the vibration reducing flax pads sitting underfoot. When you’re hitting top speed thanks to the mach 10 sintered base, you’ll need to be able to react to stimuli at the drop of a hat, that’s where the reactive triax weave sandwiching the ultralight core come into play.

“It’s a beast. A monster. A behemoth.”

Roundup

At the end of the day, you know what you’re getting yourself into with the Leviathan. It’s a beast. A monster. A behemoth. If you’re not prepared for it, it’s gonna be a wild ride, but when the conditions are just right you won’t find much better than this.
