Why we chose the Bonfire Aspect 2L Stretch Cordura Snowboard Jacket: A jacket created to match the need of Mountain Guides who venture out daily in the unknown.

For 2020/21 Bonfire’s partnered up with Montana’s Great Northern Powder Guides to design a jacket created to withstand the harsh climates of interior Montana: The Bonfire Aspect 2L Stretch Cordura Jacket.

Part of the Bonfire Platinum Collection, the Aspect jacket is customised to meet the needs of the GNPG (Great Northern Powder Guides) crew. These guys spend most of their days facing the most extreme and unexpected weather conditions, meaning their input in the jacket is most valuable.

“For 2020/21 Bonfire’s partnered up with Montana’s Great Northern Powder Guides to design a jacket created to withstand the harsh climates of interior Montana”

Based on the GNPGs own expertise and experiences, they saw it necessary to add a few features to the 2L jacket that may come in handy when venturing out into the unknown – where the weather can do unexpected things. Features such as a removable hood with an interior pocket and an interior notebook pocket with pen storage have been added. If practical pockets float your boat, this thing’s got them and then some.

The Great Northern Powder Guides also saw it fit to have a jacket with an added radio pocket with com vent, and a padded avalanche beacon pocket. Useful, and potentially life saving, things to have within arm’s reach if the worst should happen.

On top of that, the Bonfire Aspect jacket has also got other valuable features. It is, for example, fully seam-sealed meaning no water will be able to enter and you’ll stay dry throughout the whole day. There’s also a jacket to pant connection preventing snow from getting in from underneath. This feature will also stop the heat created within the jacket from escaping. There are also YKK zippers, a goggle wipe with a key hook, and a sleeve pocket for you to stash your lift card in.

For the fabric, Bonfire’s used their signature Tufftech Stretch Cordura. Cordura itself is a particularly strong polyamide fabric and can be exposed to the sharpest of edges without ripping. The fabric paired with the impressively high 30K waterproof rating makes the Bonfire Aspect jacket a real beast, meaning you won’t need to worry about its ability to withstand whatever’s thrown your way. Its long term durability means you aren’t looking at spending only one season in this, making it an environmentally friendly purchase too.

“Adding to the jacket’s overall sustainability score are the recycled brushed tricot liners”

Adding to the jacket’s overall sustainability score are the recycled brushed tricot liners. It’s great to see brands taking steps towards a greener future in big and small ways. It gives us hope that maybe the backcountry missions we know and love won’t just become a thing you read about in history books. There’s obviously loads more to be done on this front but it’s cool to see snowboard companies pulling in the right direction, more often than not.

The jacket is breathable too, which is an immensely important feature to look for when purchasing a jacket to take out into the backcountry. If the jacket doesn’t breathe, it will leave you sweaty and eventually cold. Far from ideal when your miles from shelter.

Customised to the needs of backcountry guides, this jacket has got all the necessary features you may not have thought you needed. It’s made for going off the beaten path in.

The model in the photo 6’2” (188cm) tall and wearing size L.
