http://mpora.com/videos/wFFnulNmK There’s been an outbreak of ‘webisode’ series lately, as more and more riders see the benefits of getting their stuff straight to the people, rather than holding out til the new season. While most of these are still in video podcast territory (such as Devun Walsh and Iikka Backstrom’s excellent Polar Opposites), Jake Blauvelt now brings us a bona fide web-based TV show.
In the first of four episodes of Blauvelt’s Backcountry, we follow the Vermont legend through every aspect of his season as it happens. From negotiating new terms with Ride, to the gruelling travel schedule, to finally meeting up with Lucas Debari and shredding more pow than most of us will ever see in our lives, we get it all.
It’s interesting to hear the genesis of each shot, as Jake and Lucas scout their spots and lay out their plans to the filmmakers (including Absinthe’s Justin Hoysenek). And it’s positively ridiculous to watch them quietly contemplate their next destination by looking at snow forecasts for the entire planet: Baker? Whistler? Europe? Japan?! Ah, the agony of choice…
After appearances from Lucas and Bjorn Leines in this episode, Nico Mueller is lined up for the next one. Can’t wait…
