Best Women’s Freeride Snowboards 2019-2020

Chosen by the Whitelines Test Team

UPDATE: Check out our review of the Best Women’s Snowboards for 2020/2021 by clicking here.

‘Freeride’ is a term that gets bandied around pretty loosely these days, and most of the boards in this list could also be classified as great carving, or all-mountain boards. So, what exactly makes a freeride board suitable? Like most things, there’s no cut and dry recipe for a freeride snowboard, and most boards in this list are surprisingly versatile.

There’s no one specific style of freeriding, but a freeride board tends to veer towards the steep and deep, hard charging end of the spectrum. Generally, they’ll be directional, so as better to handle the deeper snow and to allow you to really drive through turns. Garnering this extra control can deliver you a more aggressive and explosive performance.

“You don’t have to be flinging yourself tits first over Chad’s Gap to warrant owning a freeride board”

A bit of positive camber through the body of the board allows for increased dynamism, whilst a longer or rockered nose keeps it skimming over the deeper snow. A stiffer core gives you more power while riding and lends you the ability to smash through any crud, lumps or bumps you may encounter.

You don’t have to be flinging yourself tits first over Chad’s Gap to warrant owning a freeride board, as most boards in this list can handle a multitude of terrain and conditions. They can paint lines in couloirs, springtime slush slash, hammer windlips and navigate tight tree runs. If you’re spending the majority of your time riding fast, off the front foot, on and off the piste, a freeride board will make a great addition to your quiver.

Whether you’re weathering choppy seas, cruising at low tide, or kicking up a storm, these ones have got your back for every condition the mountains will throw at you. Each board in this list got the seal of approval from our Test Team in varied conditions all over the mountain. So if you want to get a bit gnarly- strap in, and have a gander at our favourite women’s freeride boards.
