Best Snowboard Goggles 2019-2020

Chosen by the Whitelines Test Team

UPDATE: Check out our reviews of the Best Snowboard Goggles for 2020/2021 by clicking here.

Season after season, the snowboard goggle technology becomes more advanced. Just have a look at the goggles you wore ten years ago and compare them to Oakley’s “PRIZM” technology.

The PRIZM technology, followed by rivals such as Lumalens (Dragon), Chromapop (Smith), Vivid (Giro) and SONAR (Anon), filters out certain light wavelengths in order to optimize the available spectrum for the mountain environment. In common language, this means we can expect greater contrast and clarity when gazing at shadowy powder chutes or freshly groomed pistes.

As in previous years, The Whitelines Test Team has put this seasons lenses to test throughout a variety of conditions – whether it was heavy snowfall, sunny spring days or lowlight, we’ve been through it all. Everything from different tints and frame shapes have been tried too, and you can find it all in this year’s list of the best snowboard goggles for 2019/20.

Whether you’ll be more likely to spend most of your season in the bright sunny alps or dark cold Scandinavia, should be considered before choosing your next pair of goggles. There’s no use buying a reflective lens meant for bright sunshine, only to travel up to Lapland in January where sunlight is just a myth. However, if you know that you’ll encounter various different conditions through the season, many goggles come with a spare low light lens (usually rose or yellow) which may come in handy when the weather’s turned grey, but if you can only take one lens, then an all-round shade like bronze is usually a safe bet.

“But if you can only take one lens, then an all-round shade like bronze is usually a safe bet”

If you’ve paid attention, you’ve noticed all the awesome quick-release systems for switching your lens – anything from magnets to levers goes. If time is of the essence, or you simply can’t be arsed to fiddle with notches and rubbery seams anymore, it might be worth spending that little bit of extra on a good and easy lens-swop-system.

Apart from all the rad new tech that’s gone into the lenses and goggles, you want to make sure they offer superior peripheral vision and comfort. Remember though, it’s worth trying on a couple to find out which model is best suited for your face shape. And if you’re rocking a helmet, you might want to bring it with you unless you want to risk ending up looking like a twat with a ‘goggle gap’.

Remember to also check for the breathable zones above and below the lens, which will keep the goggles from fogging up.

On top of that, there’s always style – which is subjective. Once you’ve got the tech covered, it’s up to you – framed or frameless, spherical or cylindrical. Just remember to take good care of the frameless models as they are a bit more exposed, making them more vulnerable.

Anon Sync Snowboard Goggles 2019-2020

PRICE: £150

  • BUY ONLINE
  • No one wants to have to change lenses halfway through a day, but if we really have to we would rather it be easy. Huddling on a chairlift trying to balance your mitts between your knees whilst attempting a swap is no ones idea of a hoot, so kindly Anon have revolutionised the game with their magnetic lenses.

Officially known as ‘M-Fusion Magnetic Assisted Lens Change Technology’ (say that 5 times fast), the lenses snap on and off in next to no time. Seriously, you can throw the lens in the air and provided your aim is decent, the lens will stick to the frame.

    Dragon D1 Snowboard Goggles 2019-2020

    PRICE: £75

  • BUY ONLINE
  • The lenses are 100%UV protected and are coated with a super anti-fog treatment to keep the moisture out where it should be. You’re not gonna have to be doing the hasty mid chair lift goggle rub anymore.

The D1 has an OTG fit, so even if you’re part of the glasses gang you can still enjoy these bad boys. They’re a larger fit in general, coming across the face wider and longer.

    Dragon DX3 Snowboard Goggles 2019-2020

    PRICE: £45-65

  • BUY ONLINE
  • The great debates rage on- frames VS frameless, cylindrical lens VS spherical lens, but at the end of the day it’s all preference. One thing we’re sure everyone can agree on is price. These lil’ beauties from Dragon are crazy cheap. But don’t take that to mean they’re not well made- they use Dragon’s signature LUMALENS technology, which provides superior colour contrast and incredible visual clarity. They offer a crazy wide field of vision as well, so you’ll be able to see more peripherally than normal.

    Dragon NFXs Snowboard Goggles 2019-2020

  • BUY ONLINE
  • The NFXs is the smallest goggle in the NFX family, and shares much of its DNA with its relatives, including the use of Dragon’s Lumalens technology. Lumalens is designed to enhance contrast between colours, making it easier to distinguish between lumps and bumps in the piste. The lens makes it easier on your eyes by improving your depth perception, so you’re not left straining to see what’s in your path.

Marks on your goggles aren’t the end of the world, but they are super annoying, so Dragon have made these lenses water repellent, and they also don’t absorb the oils from your fingers. The less goop on your lenses, the less you’ll have to clean them and risk scratching them.

    Electric Egg Snowboard Goggles 2019-2020

  • BUY ONLINE
  • The EGG was a new addition for last season and didn’t crack under the pressure. It all boiled down to a high quality lens, housed within a snazzy shape, sitting at a great price. It seems other brands were left scrambling to keep up, and we had reports of people trying to poach the design. Ok, all yolks aside, this is a dope goggle.

The Electric EGG boasts a toric lens, which is a relatively new addition to the snowboard scene, but certainly a welcome one for goggle aficionados. A toric lens follows the curvature of your eye for the best optics and gives some of the widest peripheral vision on the market.

    Electric Kleveland Snowboard Goggles 2019-2020

  • BUY ONLINE
  • The frame is medium to large fitting and the ‘Keyhole’ nose is tipped to be able to work with add-on accessories in the future. It’s made of a malleable injection moulded TPU and it’s able to be worn OTG.

The lens is a 2-layer cylindrical one, having a dual-layer traps heat between them, and reduces fogging. When combined with Electric’s Anti-Fog coating, the lens should keep clear regardless of the weather.

    Giro Method Snowboard Goggles 2019-2020

    PRICE: $130

  • BUY DIRECT FROM GIRO
  • It’d be fair to say that Giro products have been more commonly found in the heart of the peloton than the drop-in of the super pipe. This year’s all-new Method goggle signifies a change of direction for the brand. With the helping artistic hand of legendary skater, snowboarder and artist, John Cardiel, they’ve gone straight for snowboarding’s jugular and launched a goggle “designed with the core rider in mind”. Hands down, this was our test team’s favourite looking goggle of the year, with a lens that could just about make a dog see colour.

A pair of fogged-up goggles is something we all like to avoid at any cost and Melon’s found a good way to prevent this, even during the biggest of dumps. Basically, they’ve placed the foam right on the inside of the goggles preventing the snow from sticking to it, and thus providing a consistent airflow through.
