We take a look at Nicholas Müllers signature Bent Metal binding

Mervin have taken their 30-year legacy of snowboard production and funnelled all that knowledge and skill into manufacturing their Bent Metal binding range. Brand spanking new for 2019/20 the Bent Metal Cor Pro is Nicolas Müllers binding of choice, whether he’s riding technical lines in the backcountry or boosting methods off windlips.

“The Cor Pro is Nicolas Müllers binding of choice, whether he’s riding technical lines in the backcountry or boosting methods off windlips”

2019 saw Bent Metal officially welcome Nicolas to their team, with his signature Cor Pro binding. Paired with his Gnu Müllair snowboard, this is the ultimate combo for resort ripping and backcountry bonanzas. We had a deeper look to see why these are Nico’s binder of choice…

Oddly enough, the very best bindings will make you feel like you’re not strapped into anything at all. This is mostly down to the straps: when you have a thick, bulky strap you’re often left with pressure points over the foot. By removing excess padding, and ergonomically designing the straps, you’re left with something that hugs and supports your boot. The toe straps are equally as important, and Bent Metal have gone all out with the Grip Form toe strap. It’s designed to wrap round the front of your boot, keeping you secure in the binding, without having to crank it down super tight. When you’re riding long hours, whether that’s big sessions filming in the backcountry or just a first lifts kind of day in resort, you’ll be thankful for the comfort offered by the Cor Pro.

Flex wise the Cor Pro sits in the middle of the Bent Metal line, it’s their daily driver, one for every day of the season no matter what you’re shredding. It’s an all mountain freestyle offering that blends precision and power.

“Drive Plates can be tailored to deliver response and precise control and will flex underfoot and offer a seamless connection between board and boot”

Where Bent Metal separate themselves from the pack is their Flex Control Drive Plates. Featured in all of their bindings they are essentially miniature boards. Utilising a similar sandwich construction to real snowboards, these Drive Plates can be tailored to deliver response and precise control and will flex underfoot and offer a seamless connection between board and boot.

The Cor Pro comes with a magnesium fibre and carbon fibre additives through its plate for a versatile mid flex. The Drive Plates are able to be changed depending on how responsive you want your ride to be, adding to the versatility of this binding. Laid over the top layer is an EVA foam footbed, this works to take the sting out of some of the bigger landings and helps to grip your foot within the binding.

“Nicolas rides some of the gnarliest terrain in the world, so needs equipment that he can trust at the drop in”

One part of a binding that is often overlooked are the buckles. The Cor Pro buckles are made of forged aluminium, for the ultimate strength to weight ratio. Nicolas rides some of the gnarliest terrain in the world, so needs equipment that he can trust at the drop in.

While it may seem like not too many folks these days adjust their forward lean all that much, Bent Metal make it easier than ever to crank up the volume on your highbacks. If you’re looking for more response on your heelside carves, then it’s as easy as spinning the cube and voila- you’re good to go.

“Bent Metal make it easier than ever to crank up the volume on your highbacks”

Supporting you from the rear is the Nylon Polymer Highback, it’s got a high tensile strength, but sashays off the scales with a low weight as well. The extra width at the top gives you extra support for getting more drive out of your turns. The highback can be rotated round the heelcup to allow you to customise and dial in your ride.
