Bent Metal Bindings | 2020 – 2021 Snowboard Product Preview

A first look at next season's snowboard gear

Mervin has a legacy in the snowboard industry spanning over thirty years. Bent Metal is the result of funnelling all that innovation, expertise, knowledge and passion into a snowboarding binding company. With a team of pro riders including  Nicholas MullerJamie Lynn, Forest Bailey and Eric Jackson and Fredi Kalbermatten and artist collabs from the likes of Scoph and Hanah Eddy, it might just be easier to name those who aren’t members of the Bent Metal family. For the 20/21, many of the same models and signature editions make a return, along with the Axtion, a performance all-mountain binder and two new women’s models, the Stylist and Forte.

A lot of binding tech generally goes into the chassis, highback and straps (and Bent Metal aren’t short on innovation here), but a big talking point surrounding their bindings comes from their Flex Control Drive Plates. Featured in all of their bindings, they work a bit like miniature snowboards right under your feet, utilising a similar sandwich construction to real decks. These Drive Plates can be tailored to deliver specific levels of response and control while flexing naturally underfoot for a seamless connection between board and boot.

With models available in either unibody or two-piece chassis, there are options for riders to dial in the highest levels of fit and performance, with more affordable available too. And no talk of Bent Metal is ever complete without a nod to what might be the most simple and brilliantly effective innovations in a binding – The Cube. This four-sided urethane block fixed to the highback enables possibly the fastest and easiest forward lean adjustment ever.
