Which came first – the idea to create a board specifically for the bigger riders out there, or the name ‘Bataleon Stallion’? We’ll never know for sure, but it’s safe to say this wide-specific snowboard is a shoo-in for Best Named Board of 2017/18.

“If your plates of meat are on the bigger size, don’t let this one pass you by”

Personality-wise, the Bataleon Stallion has a lot in common with their all-mountain staple – check out our Bataleon The Jam snowboard review for more details. The difference, of course, is that it’s been redesigned for the taller, burlier, larger-footed riders amongst us. Sizes range from 161 up to 167, with waist widths comparable to the wide versions of the Jam.

It’s a little stiffer too, which makes sense when you consider the increased forces it’s likely to be dealing with. Realising that no-one wants to ride an absolute plank, Bataleon have given the Stallion their ‘Reactor Light’ core. Bamboo along the edges increases the board’s edge hold, while paulownia joins poplar in a lightweight-yet-strong blend.

Naturally the target audience for the Bataleon Stallion is limited, but it’s always good to see brands catering for those whose might otherwise hang perilously over the edge of their stick. If your plates of meat are on the bigger size, don’t let this one pass you by.

Tester’s Verdict

Andrew Duthie – whitelines.com

“The Bataleon Stallion is ideal for my height and shoe size, but perhaps not my weight. It’s a bit of a beast, and requires a lot of work to make it do anything.

“Burlier riders with a bigger frame may feel like this is the board they’ve been waiting for”

Everything felt like a bit of a fight at first, although things did get easier after a few runs. For such a wide one it’s nice and smooth from edge to edge, no doubt thanks to the 3BT.

It might not have been quite up my street, but burlier riders with a bigger frame may feel like this is the board they’ve been waiting for.”
