Why We Chose The Bataleon Push Up: It’s a veritable box tickin’ machine that’ll take you anywhere and everywhere.

A perennial favourite in the women’s Bataleon line up, the Push Up is their versatile, fun-loving, all-mountain machine. Our crew was united in their opinion on this one – it rips. “Smooth” was a word that was thrown around a lot from those who rode it, but this thing can still rip a carve, straight line a piste and charge through crud and chopped-up conditions.

“There’s so much potential here, and anyone who wants to progress across the whole mountain should definitely take a closer look”

This isn’t a question of what the Push Up can do, it’s more like, what can’t it do?

Who Is The Bataleon Push Up For?

It’s a safe bet for pretty much any rider, especially those who don’t want to pigeon hole their snowboarding. There’s so much potential here, and anyone who wants to progress across the whole mountain should definitely take a closer look. The Push Up was comfortably one of our best in test women’s snowboards.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

The crew at Bataleon do many things well, but one thing they do better than anyone else is their 3D shaping. They were waaaaay ahead of the curve with this one, and slowly but surely, over the last decade pretty much every brand in the industry has followed suit.

Bataleon’s 3BT (Triple Base Technology if you’re not into the whole brevity thing) sets them apart from the crowd by pre-curving the sidebases in the nose and tail. This leaves a really stable and solid section underfoot but reaps so many benefits out at the extremities of the board. Smoother carves, more float in powder, slicker turn initiation and, of course, super forgiving for dialling in new tricks.

The Push Up, like the rest of the Bataleon line, employs a full tip to tail camber bend. This is undoubtedly the liveliest and poppiest profile out there and offers bags of dynamic energy for popping onto features, or pumping in and out of turns. It allows for stability at speed, and aggression when you’re up on your edges.

While many of the fundamentals remain – it’s still built like a true twin with just a little extension in the nose, for example – the Push Up has a slightly different shape for 2023/24. It’s a shade narrowed at the nose and tail, and boasts a slightly longer effective edge.

Rail fans may be interested to see that the sidewalls now feature urethane, which does an amazing job of soaking up impacts and keeping your edges in good nick for longer.

Construction and Materials

Overall, the Push Up is a relatively soft board (and this is what helps to make it so accessible for a huge range of riders), but thanks to its internal makeup it still retains high level performance. Bataleon trick it out with playful and forgiving biax laminates, these allow the torsional flex to remain relatively malleable underfoot but boost response on the edge by laying in their Dual Super Tubes along the sidecut. So, it’s a bit of best of both worlds in this regard, it’s still easy to manoeuvre but it won’t be too soft that you’ll find yourself having to work overtime to hold through turns.

As well as this, they’ve used carbon stringers running lengthwise between the insert packs, these help to keep the Push Up dynamic and poppy tip to tail. Carbon is light with a high tensile strength and, as a bonus, it works to dampen vibrations and absorb chatter. So while the Push Up is soft and playful edge to edge, you can still push it without having to worry that you’ll slip out of turns or fall flat when you’re trying to pop onto features.

“It’s playful for jibbing and lapping the park, it can hold an edge through just about anything on piste and the 3BT makes it super fun and floaty in the powder”

Roundup

If progression is your goal, there isn’t much on the market that will be as forgiving as the Push Up. There are Bataleon boards that are more suitable to absolute beginners, but for those who have made it out of falling leaf stage, the Push Up will be a reliable and trusted companion for pretty much any day of the season. Think of a box and the Push Up ticks it, it really can do everything. It’s playful for jibbing and lapping the park, it can hold an edge through just about anything on piste and the 3BT makes it super fun and floaty in the powder. Perfecto.

Pros:

  • Triple Base is so forgiving, you basically have to try and catch an edge
  • It’s a versatile board that can handle pretty much any terrain or conditions

Cons:

  • It’s not the highest spec, or fastest board on the market
