Why We Chose The Bataleon Evil Twin Plus: The snowboard you know and love stuffed with performance enhancing drugs and buckwild with ‘roid rage.

You’ve heard of Dr Jeykl and Mr Hyde, but what if there was another involved? The Bataleon Evil Twin + is a new character in the story, one that takes the personality of the classic but looks to up the construction to offer a more refined and dynamic ride.

“One of our longtime favourite all-mountain freestyle snowboards, with all the dials turned up to 11, what’s not to love?”

Understandably, the ‘Plus’ next to the name might be quite off putting for modest riders who don’t categorise themselves as an absolute Charlie Big Potatoes, but fear not, the Evil Twin + isn’t only for pros. The board is lighter, faster and a bit more responsive, but it’ll still offer the same fun, forgiving, freestyle experience you’ll have got from the original.

Who Is The Bataleon Evil Twin Plus For?

Let’s be real here, this isn’t for novice riders. You’re a powerful snowboarder who relishes lapping the bigger lines in the park, and are prepared to drop the cash and take a zero compromise approach to buying one of the best all-mountain freestyle boards out there.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Now different here to the OG Evil Twin, and we love that. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, eh? It’s a twin, obviously, in both outline and flex pattern to earmark it as an out and out freestyle machine.

You can’t talk about Bataleon without mentioning Triple Base Technology. They weren’t the first to venture into 3D shapes, but they certainly kickstarted the party. Tip to tail is a relatively mellow camber, enough to keep it feeling dynamic, but not so much that it’ll throw you over the handlebars or hook up on rails.

Between the edges, Bataleon have used what’s essentially a rocker, scooping up the sidebases in the nose and tail, with further SideKick uplifts at the widest point. The result is a board that’s bafflingly forgiving, super smooth in and out of turns and will float like a champ. Unintentional edge catches are a thing of the past with the Evil Twin +, so focus on locking in the next trick, and don’t worry about scuffing that landing.

Construction and Materials

You’d be hard pressed to find a brand in 2022 that hasn’t given some of their most iconic shapes the VIP upgrade treatment, and a few seasons back Bataleon joined the herd with their fleet of ‘Plus’ boards. The Evil Twin + takes the very best, carbon-fuelled tech and ingredients to deliver a turbo charged freestyle experience.

The differences between the classic Evil Twin and the Plus aren’t super obvious to the naked eye, but pop the hood and you’ll see where that extra money is spent. Most notably is in the core, where Bataleon have used their lightest construction, but also trick it out with their AirRide technology: a composite material shrouded in mystery that dampens chatter.

And what’s a high-end snowboard without a little bit of carbon? The Evil Twin + delivers big time here, a Carbon Super Tube running through the middle of the board to deliver explosive pop, with cross braced carbon stringers in the nose and tail to boost response.

As for the base, it’s not their fastest — that’s reserved purely for the NASA x F1 lovechild, the Thunder Bolt — but rest assured it’ll still pick up enough speed to go like the clappers.

Roundup

One of our longtime favourite all-mountain freestyle snowboards, with all the dials turned up to 11, what’s not to love? Okay, so the Evil Twin + isn’t going to be for everyone, both the price tag and supped up performance make sure of that, but for riders with deep pockets and a deeper bag of tricks this is a snowboard that will allow you to up your game in the park and beyond.

Pros:

  • For an advanced level snowboard, it’s not that difficult to handle
  • The 3BT profile and super poppy construction will allow for rapid progression in the park

Cons:

  • It’s a bit pricier than the OG, so you need to be on your freestyle game to reap the most rewards from it

Tester’s Verdict

Mike Brindley – Videographer, Whitelines

“The ol’ faithful gets the Plus treatment from Bataleon. I’ll be honest, big park features isn’t my thing. Given how much I skate in the summer and my go to Bataleon board (the Disaster) I was a little apprehensive that this thing would just take me for a ride.

And while it’s a noticeable step up from the Evil Twin, it’s still an incredibly fun, forgiving and intuitive feeling freestyle deck. Very little of the character has been lost from the original, but given the that the snow was slushing up pretty hard by the time I got going on this thing, the faster base and slightly stiffer core (not to mention some fancy dampening tech) made for one of the best day’s riding I had this season!

You can just feel the performance in every inch of the Evil Twin Plus, and confident, big hitting park riders will absolutely lap up the construction and profile here (it’s got a decent sized camber remember), but those who ride with 70% enthusiasm and 30% technical know-how (like myself) will find an equally rewarding option.”
