For the Ladies we had a Japanese clean sweep, we saw Yuka Fujimori storming the castle with her double 900 and backside 900 Indy. She was flanked by Miyabi Onitsuka and Reira Iwabuchi who dominated the course with their effortlessly stylish riding. The ladies spent most of the week at their own specially constructed course in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl and headed over to join the lads in Solden for Saturday’s contest day.

Reports were coming in thick and fast from round the Tyrol on Saturday of a seismic shift, if you felt a slight ripple in the atmosphere on Saturday afternoon, there’s a perfectly logical explanation – it was Sebbe de Buck stomping his maverick double front flip off the launch pad. The 10m high ramp was the magnum opus of the set up, and spat the ballsy riders over a huuuuuuge 32m gap.

Mons Roisland chimed in with his 2 cents on the event “The highlight of the week has probably been watching Sebbe de Buck going off the Launch Ramp. He’s been doing stuff that you shouldn’t be able to do off of the big Launch Ramp. He’s been doing 1080s frontside and backside, double front flips… it’s crazy, people don’t even want to hit that thing, and he just killed it as if it were a normal jump.”

Sebbe kept getting the crowd pumped up with his insane displays and we’ve got some exclusive intel that he was stopped in airport security after his balls of steel set off the scanners. After his showmanship through the week, it was no surprise that he won the ‘Ruler of the Week’ and ‘Most Stylish’ award, voted for by the other riders. Just call him Sebbe de Double. Laurie Blouin flexed her freestyle muscles and won the women’s Ruler and overall champ Yuka Fujimori sashayed away with the women’s style crown.

Monster were ever present through the week and were scuttling around the course making sure everyone was well looked after. They were well repped at the comp with a host of their team riders strutting their stuff and throwing down some heaters much to the delight of the gawking onlookers.

It’s a perfect week, the pinnacle of the spring calendar, and somehow it manages to outdo itself each year. The courses are getting more and more unreal, and the quality of riding is continuously improving. How they’re gonna top themselves for next year is making our tiny brains hurt, so we’ll leave the thinking up to the pro’s and just sit and patiently wait and burn a hole in the replay button of the event footage to sate our appetites.
