Helmets & Protection

Anon Raider 2017-2018 Snowboard Helmet Review

If you’re put off by overly-complicated helmets that cost the earth and look naff to boot, perhaps the Anon Raider snowboard helmet will be more to your liking. This skate-style lid has everything you need, wrapped up in clean, subtle packaging.

While some lids are built like bike helmets with a ‘one and done’ system, the ‘Endura-Shell’ ABS construction of the Anon Raider is designed to take multiple knocks. That makes it a little heavier than some other systems, but worth the minimal extra weight if you want long-lasting protection.

Any helmet worth its salt has to be able to keep you comfortable as well as protected, which is why this has a fleece lining that makes it appropriate for even the coldest days. The earpads and lining can be removed, if you prefer to wear this over a beanie.

Another big factor in having a happy head is ventilation, and the Anon Raider uses a passive system that freshens you up as you ride. If you’re spending a lot of time either at slow speeds or stationary (when standing in a long lift queue, for example, or riding in a group that includes novices), then you’ll stay nice and cosy. Then when you’re really opening up, air channeled into the front of the helmet cools you down and expels moisture out the rear.

“Working together with your goggles’ own ventilation, the Anon Raider will keep your vision clear all day”

As well as managing your temperature, the system also prevents goggle fog, which is vitally important. Working together with your goggles’ own ventilation, the Anon Raider will keep your vision clear all day. Your best bet is to pair this up with something from the same brand, such as the Anon M2, but most goggles will work just fine too.

If you prefer to wear your goggles around the outside of your lid, a secure clip will prevent them pinging off at an inopportune moment. On the other hand if you like to wear the helmet over the top of your strap, then the clip can be removed easily to improve the aesthetics.

There are no fewer than six different designs to choose from, so matching the Anon Raider up with your existing gear is a breeze too.

Clemens Millauer – Team Rider, Anon

I never was a big fan of Helmets even if its super stupid not to wear one.
But then I found this Raider Helmet which is super light and doesn’t even feel like a helmet. I still have this freedom but at the same time I’m protected.

I think even my mum is stoked on the Raider, because it’s one of those helmets which I love to wear without complaining. I’m riding the black one with the red Anon M2 because it fits perfect and looks really good.
